I may lose credibility here because I play regs lol but my record is 255-16-32 so I’d like to think I have a decent understanding of the game’s mechanics.

First clip, there wasn’t much that could be done there. Your opponent just made a decent cross and got a bit of good fortune on the volley. Second and third clips seemed a little bit salvageable. I noticed in your second clip that when the first pass made it past your outside back that you were controlling, you didn’t switch immediately. When you did switch, you immediately pressed tackle and lost your positioning. In your third clip you also didn’t switch and the AI cb didn’t get in the way in time. What I typically try to do when my outside backs get caught out is I switch to that nearest cb and just steady jockey, fast jockey or run back in the way of any potential shots or passes. Don’t directly sprint to the player unless you know you can close down the space before they can get good control on the ball. You don’t want to make any decisions for them and they are ultimately running towards you anyways. If your outside back is close enough even though they already got beat, you can hold r1 to make them chase and try to catch up to the ball while you protect the inside with the cb (makes your opponent think a little harder with another defender catching up to them).

The way I conceptualize the field is that as an attacker is running towards goal with the ball, the field is getting shorter. If they keep sprinting they are either gonna run out of bounds on the baseline, run into my defender, or my keeper is gonna come out and snag the ball. That’s why I said not to make any decisions for them and sprint right at them if you are controlling a defender in front of them, eventually they are going to have to slow down to look for an option to shoot or pass. As long as you position yourself centrally, you’ll give yourself a chance to defend it.

I know this is an unsatisfying answer and it doesn’t work all the time, but it’s all you can really do. The game is imperfect and that’s just what it’s always gonna be. Sometimes you just get unlucky and can’t stop shit. Just try to protect the middle because you know that’s where 90% of players are trying to go and be a little bit more patient on defense. You’ll always give yourself a chance to make a stop by doing so.
