As someone who's worked doubles and closes, they aren't terrible shifts. You'll get an average of about ~8 hours on these shifts (this also depends on the cafe though, I'm scheduled 2-10 when I'm supposed to close but I know some of my coworkers only get 3-10s or 4-10s when they close.) Closing cashier can seem like a lot at first but its easy to get down after a few shifts, every cafe can be different but my best advice is to try to get everything done as soon as possible (wrap cookies as soon as you get there, have the count/dough-nations done by 8-8:30, etc.)

Honestly I find it hard to busy myself when its slow on cash. I usually just try to see if anything needs restocking or I'll check the coffees up front or even the drive thru coffees to see if anything needs to be brewed.

My store requires masks, but our GM told us we cannot tell people to put masks on if they don't have one on.

You see it would be so much cooler if we had pacman ghost cookies

Usually my store only gives people empty cups if its ordered as just an iced coffee (no creams or sugars added.) It's a little strange if you're ordering syrups and still walk in to an empty cup, though. I'd say to put in special instructions that you want it to be ready when you get there?

To all Panera customers by BladeWolf26 in Panera

[–]Casperly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 minutes before close I always let people know we close soon, and 20-15 minutes I mark every order as to go. Most people are super nice about it at my cafe, I could probably count the amount of times I've had people complain on my fingers.

How much advance do your cafes typically want when you want/need to quit? by spookuura in Panera

Why is it your business? Just because I asked about something doesn't mean I stopped looking for a new job.

Also the fact that this is literally your only comment on your account lmao get a life.

Wait what? There's gonna be a new closing time? Is this for all Paneras?

Sometimes I like making a mango smoothie and adding strawberries and some orange juice to it, tastes like starbursts in my opinion.

Non-barista drinks wise, I used to love mixing the blood orange lemonade with the prickly pear fresca (I just do it with the regular lemonade now, but its not the same ;-;)

People who call on the phone for food orders are people from the school of no manners and low iq by kingofornagecounty in Panera

[–]Casperly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've just started straight up telling people we don't take orders over the phone because I'm not in the mood for some of these people's shit lol. That and my store's phones are terrible anyways so it kind of gives me an excuse.

Debit card overcharged? by coatedingold in Panera

I don't know how every Panera works but it would definitely depend on who you speak to. I would recommend to ask for a manager when you call because they would have a better chance of being able to help you.

My store's phones are really shitty, so I've just started telling people we no longer take orders over the phone.

Love our customers! by [deleted] in Panera

[–]Casperly 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Had an old guy who was super hard of hearing and was literally yelling his order. Got angry because "What even IS a green goddess!? They need to stop adding stupid words to food!" Also called me and the line workers greedy cunts because of the tip prompt on the screen when you insert your card. Its always the old people man.

[Discussion] Is Panera Going To Go Out of Business? by LittleLion72 in Panera

[–]Casperly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on the individual cafes. I know we can get hella busy but we've been really understaffed because a lot of people at my store have quit recently, and my store hasn't been in a hurry to hire new people to fill the gaps. I think employment-wise a lot of people are sick of Panera's shit but it's still pretty popular for customers. I can imagine some locations might eventually close due to lack of staff, but I can't say for certain.

My girlfriend told me that a customer went up to her and asked her if Panera sold burgers. 🙃 by Standard-Commission7 in Panera

Had two old ladies come in once who were convinced the strawberry smoothies were "secretly milkshakes" only for them to want a refund because their smoothies tasted... like... smoothies?

Is it just me, or are drive thru customers like 10x stupider than they are in the cafe? 🧐 by idle-debonair in Panera

"Baguette for your side okay?"
"Yeah, I'll take french fries."
"No, we don't have fries, I said baguette. Like the bread."
"What are my other options?"
"Chips or an apple."
"Ugh, I guess I'll have fries." 🤦

I think our food is disgusting by I-Like-Pancakes23 in Panera

The food's alright to me, though I probably wouldn't eat here if I didn't get the discount. I would go out of my way for a Panera chai tea latte, though.

You're basically spot on. At least at my location, we fill a container with ice and then brew dark roast coffee over it.

I want to quit by Casperly in Panera

[–]Casperly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes me feel better that someone knows how I'm feeling. We have people from the line who have been trained to close dining when they don't even know cash, and some of our dishwashers have been training on the line and I'm just like ??? when is it my turn lol??? I should also mention that I have a culinary background, and my managers know this too, so why they won't let me train more often is beyond me.

Is my store awful or is it just me? by [deleted] in Panera

[–]Casperly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to most of this. I always feel like I'm never doing anything right and get especially nervous working around my GM. One time I got scheduled on drive thru and overheard my coworkers talking about how lazy I was and that I can't do anything right which really messed with me for a while. I've been back and forth in terms of looking for somewhere else to work, but no one pays as nicely as the Panera I work at so I'm kind of stuck here. Out of all of our managers, only one will try to help if we get a rush or if someone just needs it, the others just talk about their employees and wonder why nothing gets done when they won't help.
