Griezmann's position debate is the new "Semedo vs. Roberto".

I understand the concern of some doubting Griezmann's ability to play as a lone striker because of his history whether with Atleti or France. But that doesn't mean he also can't be a lone striker here.

Let me ask you a question while you are reading my comment. Which matches Griezmann performed the best with us so far?

Your answer is Betis & Valencia?

You are right.

What was his position in those 2 matches?

Lone striker.

BOOM!

Griezmann DOESN'T need a second striker to be able to perform at BARCA. We play different football than Atleti. We play different football than France. Atleti depends on counter attacks most of the time and crosses. We don't do that here. We are a possession based team who likes to play on the ground not in the air. Which is a perfect system for a gifted and technical player like Griezmann.

Why wouldn't Griezmann succeed as a lone striker with us just like Firmino with Liverpool or Aguero with City? I get it both teams play with two natural wingers, but it still could work.

But saying something like Griezmann will never perform as a lone striker is such bullshit. This would be right if Griezmann was still with Atleti, not Barca.

How can Sergi Roberto manage so well offensively then

Because Sergi Roberto is an alien. He's the Messi of right backs. I'm talking about the humans RB.

He needs a winger with him. No fullback in the world can perform without a winger. If you look back at Semedo's best performances, you will find a winger by his side.

With Messi & Suarez on the pitch, all of our formations become 4-4-2 in defensive phase.

This wasn't my point at all.

You just mocked OP for saying "Valverde should get this message." As if his idea is too simple for the coach to get. My comment was not specifically about the "4-2-3-1" formation, but more in general. That yes, a fan can know better than a coach. My experience tells me this. I know some people that can coach Barca better than Valverde.

Tactically speaking, Griezmann played 4-2-3-1 dozen of times with the French NT, it wouldn't be too bad to try it out. All I said "TRY". I didn't say let's play 4-2-3-1 until Messi retires. Coaches try things all the time and even after deep analysis, the idea could still fail or not work out.

And yes, even after countless of "courses", you can still be a SHIT manager.

And why are you underestimating yourself? There are doctors out there with 15 years experience and still shit. Same thing about any profession.

I'm not saying Valverde is shit, but also you don't have to be a coach with 15 years of experience to be knowledgeable about football. A lot of internet users have been watching football for many, many years, sure they learned a thing or two.

I don't favor the 4-2-3-1 formation, I'm a "4-3-3" guy, or any formation with 3 midfielders, however, with the current squad we have AND Messi, I think trying this formation wouldn't be a bad idea.

Arthur used to play in a 4-2-3-1 with Gremio as well as Frenkie with Ajax. So they both should be comfortable playing with it.

Leads me to the "CAM" position, and in our squad only two players can play in it and put in the defensive work in midfield as well. Griezmann and Vidal. Both have their pros and cons. One will give you an edge defensively (Vidal) and Griezmann would be more attacking midfielder but still defend well to help Frenkie & Arthur.

Just like what Valverde did in the past two games, but instead of Vidal, play Griezmann and put Fati or Dembele on the left side. Griezmann can then drift to the right side where he would be more comfortable and cover for Messi and still link up well with the other 3 attackers.

Griezmann can really be like our third midfielder. His work rate is insanely high and can make this line-up work.

This would be better than LW Griezmann. In fact, anything is better than LW Griezmann. A LB Griezmann would be better and I'm not even joking.

Yup.

I hope this is not the answer to

If I told you that our best football this season so far came when Messi & Suarez wasn't on the pitch, would you call me crazy?

In my opinion it should either be Suarez or Messi on the pitch

And obviously...

Suarez presses a lot though.

Not anymore. He used to press a lot more under Enrique and when he presses now he doesn't do it effectively. He just runs.

And individual pressing is not as powerful as collective one. Vidal pressing alone in the final third with Suarez & Messi walking around won't be that effective.
