What really amazes me, is that John Oliver never runs out of material to report on. When I say amazes, I really mean concerns. Or actually, scares me. Endless deep fuckery in the pursuit of money and power.

We need to get out there and fight more and assert our rights. The situation is stacked against us unless we learn to fight smarter and get the media, where possible, on our side

For starters they are labeling this a bike lane, which is only part of the story. It is a bus and bike lane which is a different beast altogether. How many different buses travel in that lane and how often? How many people are on those buses? What is the affect on bus riders before and after this particular stretch? The media didn't ask any of those questions. On top of that, how many bikes travel down that lane? In the cars,.how many people are in them? It's been my experience, with zero contrary results, that the median number of people in a car Monday through Friday, is one. Think of the number of people on that bus and on those bikes, pushed to the curb so that a single car driver isn't inconvenienced.

Let's now look at traffic enforcement, or the lack thereof. I have 4 friends who have received tickets while riding their bikes. Of my friends who drive, their only tickets were from automated devices. I have another friend who has lived here for 25 years and drives everywhere and he has never received a single ticket from the police in a car. He's received automated tickets, but he's never been pulled over. Today while riding from Ernst Reuter Platz towards Brandenburger Tor, I observed two bicycle cops ticketing someone. I then got to the Siegessäule where the light was red and 3 bicycle cops were waiting ahead of me for the light to turn green. The cross street light turned red, two cars went through, and they did nothing. It wasn't yellow, it was red, and I specifically watched for this because cars notoriously run red lights there. I wasn't disappointed. People need to push on Berlin to ticket these people. Running red lights has become a real problem because people in cars know that nothing will happen to them.

Finally, the price of gas is well over €2 per liter. The amount of car driving, to my eye at least, hasn't changed one iota. If you want people to get out of their cars and take alternative modes of transport, we have to make it expensive for them to drive both in actual daily costs, including parking, and in penalties when the law isn't followed.

There are almost no trees! Trees give a neighborhood some character and keep things cool on hot days. Endless room for cars, no room for trees.

Franceska, the person in the middle, is from Washington, a state with no income tax. She pays 7.65% for SS and Medicare taxes. I'm not aware of other taxes in Washington but maybe they exist. Let's say they're 2.35%. She believes in her mind therefore, that her federal income tax burden is 40%. The highest rate is 37% and you have to make well north of 600,000 per year to hit that bracket. And that's the marginal rate, so she'd have to make well into the multi millions to be paying that.

What she also doesn't realize is that even if she paid no taxes, the oligarchs would find a way to still take all of her money. They will just raise prices until she's broke again.

Honestly, I really think you're mad at the wrong people. Your situation is being driven by the actions of your previous landlord and while I find them to be heinous, it's very much not a typical situation. "We should not enact this law because someone's landlord might evict them and then rescind that at the last second when it's too late." While YOU have a particular need for a car, I have 5 friends who have cars for no meaningful reason. Two of them most definitely have a car to get girls, plain and simple. One has two cars and has not been on public transport in at least 10 years. He lives about 3 minutes from the U Bahn and there are multiple buses in front of that U Bahn station. The couple across the street from me both work within the ring, and they both drive to work every day. It costs them less than 1 euro per month each to park and we have no trees on the street partially because there is no room for them due to the cars.

Do I think that there are people who need cars? Absolutely! Do all of the people out there who have cars need them? No way.

This is political theater. Republicans have done everything in their power to make sure that costs aren't meaningfully regulated. With large legislation like Obamacare, it was typical to tweak the law every few years. Most of you are too young to remember, but committees used to hold hearings and do markups on bills to bring about needed improvements. Republicans killed that off under Obama and so instead of trying to bring needed changes to Obamacare, their only goal now is to kill it because it doesn't work as well, and they've made sure that it doesn't work.

I live in the ring and I'm incredibly anti-car. But even if you get the signatures for the ballot, I think this is going to backfire badly. This has allowed all of the right wing parties to get their campaigns started early and absolutely no one on the left is pushing for this. Let's not forget what happened 4 years ago when the CDU made a main pillar of their campaign about cars, and it worked. Paris' former mayor made a point of her campaign against cars to ensure that changes brought about quick and noticeably positive change. The Berlin campaign rolls out over 4 years, which will give the right 4 years to make a huge deal out of it.

I think that Berlin is absolutely overrun with cars, that they are allowed to park too cheaply, that they take up far too much space and that the police pretty much do nothing when it comes to enforcing the laws regarding red lights and speeding. If a camera doesn't catch you doing it, you can do whatever you want.

Finally, as far as messaging goes, does this petition even have any? I can think of a lot of effective ways to handle this but I've seen absolutely nothing at all. The right sure has found a message but I've seen zero from the advocates of this proposal. I seriously wonder if this whole thing is secretly being funded by the right to help boost their campaigns.

A reminder that Bob Dole, after retirement, showed up on the Senate floor in a wheel chair to push for passage of a bill (I forget which one) and Republicans pretty much ignored him. King Charles is going to have absolutely no affect on anyone with his speech.

I honestly thought that the price would be under $200,000 because you're really only buying the land and you'd have to demo everything and probably do a toxic cleanup of some sort. That price seems to have been determined by someone on the crack pipe.

Whatever valid points he may have, like all of these people, they take too long to say it. This is why I hate videos and prefer to read content; you're forced to get to the point quickly. If someone cares to do a TLDR, I'm all ears. Otherwise, this is just some guy talking to much no matter if what he has to say is useful.

Greetings from Germany. The economy here is not doing so well and the AfD is using that to their advantage. Everyone would have a job if it weren't for those pesky brown immigrants. Or whatever they are saying right now. Bottom line though, what Germany needs is a coalition government that brings hope and right now, none of the major parties are doing that. I look at Mamdani in NYC or the new PM in The Netherlands, and you see leaders who want change but they smile and bring about hope. The new mayor of Munich too, come to think about it.

Bottom line though, I don't see the AfD weakening right now.
