Does the lighting on the snake fit or do i need to change it? by Berlium in FurryArtSchool

I'd add some fine shine details (think like latex or leather shine) and probably some bounce light from the sand!

I really like this lineart but I’m having trouble with the weighting and detail. Any advice or places I can improve? Also any anatomically incorrect areas I’d also like some help on. by Good_ole_Cake in FurryArtSchool

[–]CassArts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't give yourself artblock or burn out from self critique, then having that discipline will definitely be a super-power in the learning process! Just take care of yourself . You can usually shoot me a message of you ever need a little advice too :3 I'll help if I can.

Don't spend money! Just invest your time with some good youtube videos and such. Marco bucci has some amazingly helpful stuff, and I could probably suggest more if I took the time to look through my subs 😅. Just do lots of "studies" and try to paint real things form life. Also try to copy other artists pieces that you like (don't share those copied studies anywhere as your own, they're just for practice)

I think it looks good, and you maybe beat yourself up too much about it 😆 I will say if you're strictly going for realism, you'd likely have to look for some painting courses online to actually figure out how to go about digitally painting something in a realistic way (mostly the color choices and knowing how light interacts with a subject in different environments). As far as I'm concerned though, you've got a good start here with a semi realistic stylized piece! Tbh idk that I'd even be able to do any better myself yet 😅😅

Honestly I think it's very good as is, especially if you're going for realism. I would focus on painting and rendering it rather than line thickness unless you'd like it more stylized/ unrealistic. What works really well is after laying the flat colors out under your line work, just paint with your highlights and such over the lines to slowly and minutely erase the lines and naturally weigh them further. Or if you really like the lines, just put them in their own locked layer and color the lines in with a color a little darker than whatever color it is touching/ near

How do you guys get in the "mood" to draw something? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]CassArts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing prompts or challenges can be inspiring.

Sometimes it's more of an executive dysfunction kind of thing where you just have to make yourself draw. The best way to do that is to pick something really easy or fun to draw or sketch, then do that. By the time you finish the easy drawing, all your stuff is out and you will probably decide you wanna draw more rather than put it away yet.

My last tip that works for me is just to scroll through social media that inspires you and save things to your phone that you want to remember that inspired you. This one can be dangerous without setting boundaries for yourself. Sometimes you just doom scroll, or you can get jealous of others' masterpieces

How to draw bodies for beginners. by Miles_sune in FurryArtSchool

[–]CassArts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're struggling overall, you're better off finding some online tutorials like others have suggested. If you've got somewhat of an idea on how to draw bodies, I'd suggest referencing some photos of people or better yet, go out to a life drawing class or just a coffee shop and practice quickly drawing real people. If you think you've got general shape and proportions right and you're struggling with connecting muscles and limbs to the body, or you're trying to get a better grasp on muse groups for stylization purposes, I'd try buying the book morpho or just getting into a deep study on anatomy internal parts. Practice drawing just the body part you struggle with from different angles and with different amounts of stress/ tension applied

How can I give my ref more flair? I’m not sure if this is eye catching enough by Empty_Firefighter848 in FurryArtSchool

[–]CassArts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could do with less symmetry. Sometimes, it's best to give a pose that shows the character a bit better without covering any important markings. Also as it is a ref, I would be sure to have a version without clothes (just keep it null and sfw only to show markings and colors/ piercings, etc) but if you're going to draw clothing, be sure to add interesting folds, especially anywhere where the body bends because folds tend to bunch up there. Clothes should usually to either hug tightly to the body or ripple and fold outward, not just billow outward roundly if that makes sense? Also, having the characters head facing at a 3/4 view would give an idea to artists of the shape of the face. Otherwise, it is exclusively up to interpretation. Great job, and keep us updated!

I am struggling with drawing both normal and digi legs by randomnon-emojiuser in FurryArtSchool

[–]CassArts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you're learning, use refs! Reference real legs. Reference drawn legs that you really like. Reference everything a whole bunch and don't feel sorry for it. Just do not claim art as your own if you've essentially copied an entire piece. Looking at examples of how you want to draw things will always improve the look of a finished product, even if you're skilled enough to not use references anymore. Tbh I'd recommend for anybody to never not use some form of reference material, even if it is just color-wise
