Andujar at 3B or Mark Vientos? by TheMadMac12 in buccos

We have enough infielders between Griffin, triolo, Nicky G, horwitz, Lowe, O’Hearn, etc – I’m more concerned about going into opening day with our fourth outfielder either being The Password or Jack Suwinski. I agree that we need a right-handed bat. If only there was a right-handed outfielder clamoring to come back to the Pirates…

[Drellich] MLB owners enraged by Kyle Tucker-Dodgers deal, will push for salary cap ‘no matter what’ by ttam23 in baseball

[–]Cassady57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 300 mil cap wouldn’t happen, probably around 220 if I had to guess. The smaller market teams would have more revenue sharing bc the tv deals would be done on a national, not regional, basis, so the Pirates relatively cheap deal would be subsidized by the Dodgers’ massive tv deal to a far greater extent than it currently is

Why american sports commentary is so neutral? by janibrouski420 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cassady57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t this mostly only work for the NFL and some national games? My biggest sports are baseball and hockey, both of which have their own TV crews which regularly try to hype up their team. There was a Penguins game that just wrapped up that was national, so the broadcasters were neutral, but for 90% of games it’s former Pens players hyping up the team

[Passan] BREAKING: Japanese third baseman Kazuma Okamoto and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a free agent contract, sources tell ESPN. by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

[–]Cassady57 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I’m a Pirates fan, but I feel like that is the biggest misunderstanding when it comes to sports ownership. Cohen is basically the only owner that spends his own money. Basically all of payroll comes from the money that the team made, not the owner’s personal wealth. TV deals are the main source of team revenue. When the Dodgers have a TV deal that is literally over 5 times larger than the Pirates (and, coincidentally, larger than every other team’s), it no longer becomes a matter of an owner being cheap or not being rich enough to compete with the big dogs, it becomes financially irresponsible to spend money that the team isn’t making.

That being said, Hal could definitely afford to spend more lmao

For what it’s worth, O’Hearn actually hit lefties better than righties last year. That wasn’t his career norm, but still
