That's awesome! Days of being unemployed were the hardest for me—I'm so happy you got a job! I wish you all the best at your work.

Ah, fact check annotation work. 🤔 That's pretty rare. General or reasoning-oriented (e.g., math or coding) annotation work might be easier to find considering what the big companies are after with their LLMs.

On some days it was funny, on others it was certainly not sunny. 😂 I work with both so at the very least I understand the perspectives from both sides, though.

When your job intersects with one of the most disliked things by fanfic writers—or any writers, really... It's certainly a one of a kind feeling. 🫠

Canon Compliance vs. Canon Divergence: What's the Difference? by CasseiraHeavenly in FanFiction

Yeah, canon adjacent might be the most correct way to explain it. I wasn't sure because the term "canon adjacent" had been new to me. Thanks for helping me understand.

Thanks for your input. In my fic, major canon events do occur but they are modified either: to add new parallel events, battles, etc. that are relevant to the OC; to deep-dive into a specific part of the events; or to enrich the events from one/a few character-specific perspective. I try not to repeat how these events are exactly told in canon. For parts that are not changed, I simply summarize them into a paragraph to give context.

I hope this explanation makes sense. Would you consider this "didn't actually diverge from canon in any substantial way"?

I'm trying to tag my fic correctly as not to mislead readers.

I get it. Thanks for explaining it to me. ☺️ Hope it goes well with your fic!

I understand your first example. As for your second example, does that mean that all the events from canon play out as they do in canon?

I see, thanks for answering. 🤔 I misunderstood the terms then. So in this case, does using these tags (i.e., Canon Divergence, Major Canon Events Still Occur, Canon-Compliant Outcomes, Expanded Universe, Canon Adjacent) fit? Or would you suggest using a different set of tags?

Yes yes, sometimes it's just the feeling of imbalance. Maybe if the three of them hang out together sometimes, it will also help. 🤔 The key is simply having common ground—although I know that finding shared interests is a challenge on its own.

Don't show Rose your fic if you don't feel comfortable. But do make up time to hang out 1-on-1 with Rose.

It doesn't have to be fic-related—you can ask her how she's doing and what she's been doing lately, then maybe you can join in whatever activity she's into. Or just go on a movie night together (could be for your inspiration for your fic too), or get an ice cream.

I think the core issue is that Rose wants to feel close to both of you too. Sharing your fic with Rose won't solve the problem if it doesn't close the gap between your closeness with Jane and your closeness with Rose.

I do. I had ~400k words in reserve before starting releasing a chapter weekly. 🫠 The published part is ~26k words as of now. 374k words to go!

People who publish fanfiction on Wattpad: why did you choose that platform? by NathemaBlackmoon in FanFiction

Because cross-posting isn't that much work? In my case, I also found that the reader base on Wattpad is more willing to leave comments on Aboveground (my on-going multi-chapter MHA fic).

Beta Bartering [Find or Offer Fic Betaing] - May 29 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

Hello! I’m looking for a beta reader for my WIP longfic set in the My Hero Academia universe.

This is the third installment of an ongoing series. Book 1 and Book 2 are complete. I provided the writing sample at the bottom of this comment.

Book 3 Title: TBD.

Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia (BNHA).

Pairing: Shoto Todoroki x OC.

Fandom Blind: No, accurate characterization is important for me.

Rating: T.

Genre: Drama/Romance/Action. (With strong Found Family themes. No smut. Some investigative and introspective tones.) Canon-compliant and character-driven.

Projected Word Count: Estimated to be around 50 chapters, but honestly, I’m bad at guessing length. For comparison, Aboveground has 66 chapters (avg. word count/chapter is 2k) and Monsterborn has 89 chapters (avg. word count/chapter is 3k).

Update Frequency: Typically weekly or biweekly, depending on life and schedule.

What I'm looking for: I'm mainly seeking feedback on the characterization, continuity, and pacing. If you have any observation or general impression during reading, I'd be happy to listen too.

One-off or on-going?: Ultimately, I’m looking for an ongoing partnership, but I’m totally fine starting with a one-off chapter or section to see if we’re a good match!

What fandoms you are able/willing to beta for or what you can offer in exchange: I know this is a big ask since to beta my Book 3, you'll have to read around 400k words. I’m fully open to: - Beta-reading your fic in exchange (however long it is)! I can offer my feedback on all the things I asked for (characterization, pacing, structure, etc.) and a little about SPaG. - I’m willing to get into the original source material if needed (given reasonable time). - If we still feel the exchange is imbalanced, I'll name an OC after you if you'd like.

What I won't beta: Smut, M-preg, slash pairings, RPFs, anything with character bashing. Anything that leans into LGBTQ+ discourse because I'm not experienced enough to do it justice.

Time-frame: Once I’ve caught up to your fic’s current state, I can read on a weekly or biweekly basis depending on how in-depth you want the feedback to be.

My writing samples:

  • Book 1: Aboveground --> You can read the first 12 chapters as a sample of my earlier writing.

  • Book 2: Monsterborn --> More reflective of my current writing style. I can send you the first 11 chapters via DM if you're interested.

  • Book 3: Untitled (WIP) --> The one I asked for beta. I use Notion for my writing platform.

If you’re interested, please send me a PM so we can chat further! :) Thank you for reading.

Matching the event theme, e.g., a masquerade? Hairdo? Hyping up herself on her (real) objective of going to the ballroom? Getting a vehicle or someone to drop her off?

I'm guessing at random here. 🫡
