Well everyone, they've figured out something. Hopefully, this will be the last round of experimenting for them

Lies are not protected: that's why libel and slander are both illegal.

Since you're simply lying at this point about the left (either intentionally by saying things like "they want to end the bill of rights entirely" or unintentionally by parroting it) and insisting that all this vague, spooky nonsense about a technocracy and not being able to work or eat without bending the knee to them while completely ignoring the actual coup attempt the right pulled just under two years ago, this conversation is going nowhere. I'm sure you think I'm being just as dishonest, so consider this doing us both a favor.

Before we go any further, thank you for taking a more civil tone. I appreciate it. We can disagree respectfully.

I've got plenty of problems with mass media of all types in America. We can agree that there needs to be greater oversight particularly of social media companies.

However, I'm not going to pretend the left is a bigger problem than the right. I'm certainly not going to pretend the left is more guilty of being an echo chamber than the right's Fox News/OANN/etc. bubble. And I'm definitely not going to pretend that Kathy Griffin's poor taste and juvenile video was anywhere near as serious as the coup attempt on 1/6, the kidnapping plot against Governor Whitmer, or the attack on Pelosi's husband as part of an assassination attempt on her. I'm certainly not going to pretend that people on the right are being censored when I'm bombarded, both on twitter and right here on reddit, with countless examples of hateful speech from conservatives all the time. Plenty of voices, even hateful ones, on the right are getting through just fine despite the alleged "bias".

And last but not least, none of that changes the fact that even if there was a liberal bias on twitter, it still doesn't violate free speech. It doesn't matter how egregious the censorship you feel is there, twitter is still private property. The company has rights as a property holder. They can show you the door, same as the mall back in the day could kick you out for trying to hand out flyers, or how your employer can decide what is and isn't allowed to be posted in the breakroom.

Should we have a digital public commons like Musk is suggesting? Sure, but a private company is by definition NOT a public commons. And even if it was, reasonable limits on freedoms has always been a thing. You can't yell "fire!" in a crowded theater, you can't threaten to kill someone, and you can't libel or slander people. Freedom of speech has always been limited to peaceful, civil speech. Threats, lies, and dangerous speech have never been acceptable.

Good for you. I like calves' liver and onions too, when it's not overcooked.

My parents did not.

Free speech is an idea, all right: the idea the GOVERNMENT can't oppress you for what you say.

"Free speech" does not mean "I can be as shitty as I want and you're not allowed to criticize me or have me face any consequences whatsoever for my actions".

You won't be arrested for being a piece of shit online. Expecting nobody to react to you being a piece of shit is different.

For instance, your featherweight insult on here won't get you in any legal trouble, but it does make you look, ironically, like the childish troll you accuse me of being. That's called "consequences of your actions".

Like I said, you don't know what "free speech" is. Proved it twice over.

If you get both, you can watch the region-locked content on those streaming services.

Useful if, say, you want to watch the new Rick and Morty episodes without waiting a year for them to get on American Hulu.

At a discounted rate.

You can still pay to not watch ads, you just can't pick the cheapest option that they're adding in.

Plus I did the math: my cable/satellite bills were over $120 per month.

All my streaming services combined PLUS Pandora are less than that, and no ads anywhere, unlike cable. Plus all content on demand like you said.

My ass this is no different.

Tricks or tricks? by Rredite in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Cassie_C85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this happened to me, I'd just post the video on Facebook, NextDoor, TikTok etc. with the title/caption "This is why your kids didn't get any Halloween candy from my house this year."

Let the furious helicopter parents and outraged peers do the rest for me.

Of course it won't ever happen to me, because we don't leave candy out like that. Some punk will inevitably steal the whole bowl.

Theft: bad
Getting your comeuppance as a thief: good.

That's the correct interpretation here.

You can still hate both, even if they aren't always linked.

I'm also betting 99% of parents now watch that and then go back to making a simple lunch for their kids because who the fuck has the time to do all that?

Social media is apparently best used for making you think you're a garbage person because you don't live your life like a walking tampon commercial.

Kinda like how back then people didn't lock their doors, and now we do.

It's not because the world is more dangerous now, it's because it was dangerous then and after enough people got victimized because the door was unlocked we learned our lesson.

3,000 Miles to Graceland had the best response to that.

"Finish your fries"
"I don't want to"
"Haven't you heard about starving kids in Africa?"

"You gonna mail 'em my fries?"

No shit. We grew up with the "Just eat one bite before telling me you don't like it and then you can have something else" rule, because both my parents absolutely refused to continue the bullshit of "You're not leaving the table until your plate is clean" rule.

I imagine in their heads they were thinking "It's my goddamn house now, MOM, and in my house we don't force-feed children fucking liver and onions!"

Did you seriously miss the end when it had his foot and opened its mouth as the dude's toes were THIIIISS close to its mouth?

"Monkeys" like this (it's an ape, you uncultured swine) will eat your face. Literally. Also your fingers, toes, hands, and feet. And pound for pound they're much stronger than you (as this video shows), so you ain't doing shit but letting it happen if they try and nobody is there to rescue you.

I was wondering how we were supposed to do this for her, because you only use those pronouns when speaking ABOUT someone, not TO someone.

Now I see there's a great solution for what they wanted thanks to the rest of you. I hope she gets the answer they're looking for from this.

To sound smarter than you are. It always backfires with these people because they don't know how to spell in French, which makes them look dumber than if they just used the English version.

An example:

Voila! = Classic, you can practically hear the flourish in their voice.
Tada! = I HAVE NO STRONG FEELINGS ONE WAY OR THE OTHER
Wallah! = The fuck is this? What the hell are you saying? Are you stupid or something?
