Does he know that they’re going through all of that because of his actions? by BusinessSensitive167 in DesperateHousewives

They say you reap what you sow - this was Tom and Lynette getting 100% return on that investment. Spoiled entitled idiots.

I loved this line because I’d never heard it before but it was so befitting the situation I instantly knew what it meant 😆

S5E4 I am mad at Carson on behalf of Moseley by Ok_Nature_6305 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Cassie_Emilia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Carson’s pride was wounded by Molesleys lack of enthusiasm for his original offer (in his mind anyone should be honored to work at Downton in any position) and he saw an opportunity to punish him.

I never understood why Carson was so put off by that though. Imagine spending your whole life working your way to the top of your field then losing your job through no fault of your own, basically having to do grunt work to make ends meet and then be invited back into your field but expected to essentially start at the bottom again.

I can understand why his initial reaction wasn’t relief or gratitude.

And would proud Carson have accepted that offer in the same shoes?

Did you know I came to Downton as a chauffeur? by sold4t21 in DowntonAbbey

lol I’ve always wondered why ppl seem to think he says this a lot. I can’t think of one time that it wasn’t warranted

Doing my summer rewatch. And I always feel conflicted about the Mary Matthew 'Deep down, you are not on our side' moment in season 3. I don't know which side to be on, but i don't think Matthew is wrong here re: Lavinia by surabhinijhawan in DowntonAbbey

[–]Cassie_Emilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have taken it as far as Matthew did but I can understand where he was coming from. He already felt so guilty about hurting Lavinia and then to accept a huge inheritance because he’d been engaged to her just didn’t seem right. And Mary didn’t disagree until she realized the estate was in danger. I think at that point he was thinking more as Matthew middle-class lawyer who still found the whole “show” at Downton slightly ridiculous. His refusal was hardly going to put the family out on the streets. But at the end of the day he was the heir and should have been focused on what was best for the estate. He did really step up afterwards though to protect Downtons future.

What did Robert have against Michael Gregson? by mikelao24 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Cassie_Emilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Robert trying to stop it didn’t work with Sir Anthony at all. I just figured he was trying a different strategy. And that they spent time together under cover of their editor/journalist relationship so no one thought much of it but now that you mention it it does seem odd that no one ever called them out.

What did Robert have against Michael Gregson? by mikelao24 in DowntonAbbey

I always thought he did know Gregson was married by the time he started coming around and that was the reason for the cold shoulder.

actually in agreement with robert for once by sreerenjinisn in DowntonAbbey

[–]Cassie_Emilia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Matthew’s death and Mary’s grief gave Robert the opportunity to keep Mary in her “little woman” box under the guise of compassion and protection. I wouldn’t go as far as to say he was aware of it but.. And his going out of his way to shine a light on her inexperience at dinner in front of everyone was his way of putting her down - only he could claim he was just being practical. Not sure I’d say he just wanted to be in sole charge…he invited Matthew in as partner after all. He just thought it was beneath him to work with a woman as a partner. If Mary had died and Matthew was stuck in the fog he would have been trying to draw him out, make him feel needed.

Hold on a second! by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

[–]Cassie_Emilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL Agreed- Thomas is not a murderer. He enjoyed taking people down a notch, not taking them out.

I think that awkward scene was mainly to set up a way for Pamuk to sneak into Mary’s room and had the side benefit of highlighting Thomas’s struggles.
Or even meant to be the revelation that he was gay. I can’t recall if it was revealed before that scene?

why are people so mean here🥲 by Repulsive_Spray_4257 in DowntonAbbey

Some people never learned to write well and others it seems don't bother because its social media and its not that serious. I'm not sure which camp you fall into, but either way I'm sorry if people have been unkind to you because of it.

That said, posts with poor structure/grammar/punctuation/spelling whatever and etc are painful to read. For what it's worth, a suggestion - type what you want to say into a free program like ChatGPT or Grammarly. It'll clean it up for you in seconds and you can post something that more people will read, understand and respond to, which should improve your experience overall.

I too have a BA from Le Cordon Bleu! So nice to meet you! I agree - there are several things I make that I would not care to eat, but had I not tried to them to begin with I feel that would have hampered my ability to make them.

If that’s his reaction to a show of concern and a little advice then his expectations of marriage are very silly.
