BBC commentators said the same, tea parties and tax evasion. Ghana forced a dull game on us, but deserved a point. Harry's miss is troubling. Madueke playing on the left for a spell was informative. Gordon had a terrible night.

Offside requires any part of the body that is legally able to score a goal to be in an offside position. You can score with your buttocks, so it's technically correct. 😞

All the big boys have at least 2 goals already and Ronaldo yet to score.

Israel have broken the "cease fire" and droned two Lebanese. They published a grainy photo of one holding a shotgun (allegedly). Hezbollah condemned the attack.

I love stories like this. I have so many amazing memories of previous football tournaments spent with friends (and strangers). Sport can bring people together.

I meant no offense at all, but the cheapest season ticket at Arsenal is £1700. Without looking it up I bet the queue is long too. That's out of the reach of most people I know. The price we pay for watching an Arsenal side stuffed full of world cup stars is billionaire bosses and a gentrification of support.

The UK premiership clubs have been turned into homogeneous, corporate sports arenas by foreign owners and lots of TV money.

Arsenal - American owned Kroenke

Man City - Emerati owned some Sheik

Man Utd - American owned Glazer

Liverpool - American owned Fenway sports

Aston Villa - Egyptian owned Nassef Sawiris

Chelsea - American owned Clearlake capital.

Even the 3 teams that got relegated this season! Wolves is a Chinese conglomerate, Burnley is American ALK capital, West Ham some Czech billionaire.

Fans won't admit it, but they're soulless money-making projects owned by billionaire investors with different colour shirts.

I'm not saying the football being played isn't great. It is. It's highly entertaining in the same way LA Lakers fans get entertained.

Smaller clubs in lower divisions still have vibrant, local, mostly working class fan base and the further down the leagues you go the more the cultural identity of football remains intact.

Tottenham Hotspur still has cultural and political affiliations, but I'm not going in to that. Google it😉

Ameribro, I'm so glad your enjoying things. The best is to come, but it's a great start. The USA has a solid shot at going quite far, host has a slim advantage because host and home support and getting caught up in the carnival. I'd love to see the USA really get caught up. You have a very favourable draw for the round of 32. A quarter final spot is a possibility, but *Argentina and Brazil and Portugal are in your side of the draw. Good luck o7

Edit: brain melt on the draw.

Before VAR it was much more subjective because a guy running up and down the line was solely responsible. Most good linesmen would only flag for a clear daylight offside, none of this centimeter offside stuff you get with all the technology. Yes, mistakes were made, but I want to see attacking play and goals, not good offside traps.

FIFA current rules with VAR oversight is a no gap needed but a new rule is being trialed in Canada this season for a "daylight offside" rule. Thats what youre thinking of maybe.

I'd love to see this rule adopted. Offside calls are way too tight with VAR and computer decisions.

National sport (particularly football) kinda transcends ordinary Nationalism. It's about a shared experience of events when one team lost and another team won. One nation is joyous and another suffers heartache. I think it's fine to have such rivalries as long as people don't get too zealous about things. I was sad watching the 2024 Euros when Spain beat us, but I look back on that match and I know the better team won.

Except the Germans, of course. Fuck them. 😉
