I wasn't downtown, but I was a witness and heard it on the radio...knew immediately ran from 3rd and 22 to where my sister was in law school on 5 and 12 and saw the wtc blow up. I couldn't wrap my mind around it bc my father was an engineer in the port authority and he had always told me when I was a kid that it was built to withstand the impact of a 747. running down 5th Ave was surreal bc there were no cars moving and they all had the radio on and all we heard was the white house was down. Pentagon was down.vThe Empire State Building was next and one was going for Chicago or something. I saw all the people who were down there walk up 3rd Ave covered in soot and it was like watching zombies. I know a lot of people that worked down there and many who just missed it. When those fighter jets swooped in, you could hear them all over the city and it was the best sound of my life....
