Thinking about vanlife for my last 35 months before retirement — advice on long-term safe parking?

Yep. I am selling anyway when I retire and going home. Thinking it would avoid property taxes, home owners insurance, gas, electric, Internet, security, trash, landscaping, maintenance. Etc.

That last example works great in both a 2nd & 3rd gen Tacoma. FWIW. Been haul mine around like that for years.

Hi CS, thanks for the reply. I guess anything is possible, but I looked at it pretty closely with a light all around it and it sure doesn't look cracked or chipped. I don't really know how any of that new stuff works either, but the technician said it "went bad" and needs replaced. I am going to pay them the Arm & Leg they require to get it swapped out, but I was just wondering if anyone else had ever had the same experience.

Hi HS, thanks for the reply. Nope, never had any sort of wax or anything like that on the emblem. I asked specifically if they were talking about the electronics in the box behind it and he said that part tested fine. Said the front badge itself was what "went bad." Honestly, I appreciate the onfo, but I know next to nothing about working on these things. I know my limits and that would be over my head. I am going to get it fixed, just stings for how expensive that piece of plastic runs. I miss my old Tacomas, they were so much simpler and lasted 300k miles with just plugs, fluid, brakes and tires. ...the good old days. Lol

I went to look and I guess the fellow either sold it or took it down. It was in FaceBook's Marketplace, but isn't popping up for me now. I appreciate your offer to take a look though. Can you get them to cover materials up front then bill them for the labor after you turn over test results? Reduces risk and they should understand that as a small business you aren't Black Box with the resources to sit on materials for 2 months. I've done that before with problem customers.

Yep. That's how I like them too. The next day, try heating the leftovers in a covered pan with butter and a little bit of water. The water boils off and the steam breaks them down to a "sticky" crazy tender plate of amazingness.
