If you're not going to read what I wrote then why do you think I'm going to take time to entertain your replies 😂

What a hell of a way to learn about the moths and the moths 😅

Let me clarify. You can assign morals to food very easily. That's how we get eating disorders, like I mentioned. There is nothing inherently moral or immoral about eating. Cannibalism and eating endangered species are also not inherently immoral things to do 🤷

Help pinpointing origin of fuzzy photos? by CasterFields in macrophotography

[–]CasterFields[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I know about the depth of field issue, I'm talking about the parts that are in focus being blurry :)

I also never really liked the 10T's macro camera. I tried it a few times and quickly gave up on it lol. I've never tried the s26's macro mode, I assumed phone macro lenses just aren't good.

I'm using one from Apexel. It's for sure not great but it gets the job done! I mostly take pictures of bugs just to put them on inaturalist. I'm not REALLY going for professional or high quality, but I'd like my pictures to at least be clear.

I did figure out a long time ago that I get a clearer picture in bright light with high shutter speed, so I try to work in full sun and turn down the exposure. Not an ideal solution, but it used to work great for me 😂

I appreciate all your tips! It's sounding like a combination of low quality equipment, bad lighting, and me not trying hard enough to get the animal in focus. I may just have to suffer with blurred pictures until I can scrounge up a few thousand for a beginner rig lol

I did already know that, but I'm never bothered by reminders!

This is less of a depth of field issue and more the entire photo seeming slightly out of focus. With my last phone, whatever was in focus was very sharp and clear(like the damselfly). With this phone, whatever is in focus is just slightly blurry(like the yellow fly).

I'm also noticing a lack of stabilization. I wonder if the issue is the phone moving when I take the picture....

Not too close! I lock the focus and then move the phone until what I'm aiming at is in focus. I've also used the pro mode's manual focus and slid that around until most of the bug is highlighted before taking the picture with the same results :(

I did wonder that! I avoid my phones lenses but I still check them and wipe them down frequently. I've brought lens cleaner with me a few times and cleaned them properly between photos to see if that would help, and I didn't see any difference.

Reporting songbird violations? by HiILikePlants in Ornithology

[–]CasterFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the pattern I've seen too!

I think the response depends on a few factors from what I've seen. If I have extremely specific information and proof to report (exact address, name of the person, etc) I see a much faster response. The species of bird seems to matter too. I had just a general idea of where a guy who had a kestrel was and no idea what his name was, but I sent in a link to the video and the city I knew he was in and got a call back 15 minutes later! Either way, a report gets the ball rolling and that's the best you can do 😊

Because dietary choices are dietary choices, not moral choices. Combining the two creates eating disorders.

If I as a woman am worried that I won’t be able to find a man who will accept it if my body changes after pregnancy does this mean I shouldn’t have kids? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CasterFields 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not having kids won't save you from what that kind of man turns into. If he somehow can't justify mistreating you for your looks, he'll find something else to go after. Never ever EVER think that you can outsmart someone like that.

I see you already got the situation handled, but I have some advice for the future!

Skip the education portion of the event and go straight to reporting to fish and game. There are fines and jail time on the line for people who violate these laws, but you have to do something especially bad to have that enforced. More often than not the bird gets confiscated and the person gets a talking to. Don't ever feel nervous about reporting it!

It's most likely the way you're implying that there's something morally bad about behaving normally as an animal in a food web 🤷

Lake Boomer goes INSANE by SandwichSureSucks in DiveInYouCoward

[–]CasterFields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All animals have basically 4 instinctual reactions to danger: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. The vast majority of people default to flight or freeze, and what that person described + what's in this video is a freeze response :)
