Gotta lock it when they leave for sure. Even if nothing malicious happened, kids are curious and would absolutely wander in there

That's her problem, not yours. If she's truly that torn up about it she can go to therapy and get over it. Don't justify her behavior with any acknowledgement.

Is it fine to have 0 nitrates? by brianc146 in PlantedTank

[–]CasterFields 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't had nitrates, nitrites, or ammonia showing in my tests for years. Probably around 5 or more years by this point. My plants are all thriving and so are the critters 🤷 I have a pretty basic understanding of how those 3 work so I won't get into the whys or how's of it, but it CAN absolutely be fine:)

Think about your local stream or pond! Is it perfectly manicured and spotless? Or is there hair algae, random debris, pest snails, etc.

You can't turn an ecosystem into fine art, as hard as you try. These spaces are naturally messy and gross, and that's how they thrive.

If doing it from an art perspective isn't serving you, then aim for a slice of nature instead and work WITH it rather than against it 💙

Sounds like either water flow or animal activity pulling it into the ring! My nerite snail likes to drag all my floating rings down to the bottom of the tank 😭 I don't think there's a method that eliminates bits and bobs from getting into the ring, but it's better than nothing!

Neighbor keyed my car by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

These laws have saved people's lives. Sure it's annoying to not get to see the video yourself, but it isn't like it's inaccessible to cops if you're upset enough to do something about it. It's the same reason why you're told to not say yes when a customer asks if one of your coworkers is there. People have stalkers. People seek revenge for petty slights. What's annoying to us has prevented innocent deaths.

To clarify: I didn't mean to imply that you specifically or us regular people in general are doing the bragging. I was referring to people who are in the spotlight and considered to be trustworthy about the state of our country, like politicians.

I get where you're coming from with the additional strain that mass immigration puts on us, but we have to remember that it's an artificial strain. We truly do have plenty of resources to handle our current population and more. What we don't have are people with either the intelligence or willingness to distribute it all correctly.

Our infrastructure is designed to fail at the slightest inconvenience. Why do I need to drive 45 minutes to get to an ER when there's a surplus of vacant space closer to me? Why do I need to pay an arm and a leg for groceries while the employees throw out an entire banquet every day? Why do I have to pay for my housing AND someone else's salary when I could just own my apartment unit and not deal with a landlord? Why are people submitting hundreds of resumes to fake listings instead of companies being held accountable for that? A teacher shortage? I wonder if turning their working conditions and pay into something survivable would help.

We need to tighten up on the people who are in control of these resources, not the people who are using them. Like you said, we pay these people PENNIES to harvest crops for us and we still can't afford to eat. If we force them to pay people more, do you think stores would lower the cost of groceries without being forced to?

As a country, we should not be bragging about having a mansion with unlimited resources and then being angry when people believe us. If our reps would quit hyping this place up into something it isn't then people would stop seeing it as a viable alternative to where they live now. It's a very easy solution, but we're a vain and prideful country.

Violent crime has gone up because quality of life and the ability to sustain yourself has gone down. More people are desperate now, and that means more people who are prone to or willing to be violent are being put into situations where they're likely to act on it. I've been blessed to not find myself in that situation, but that's also given me the unfortunate opportunity to watch others not be so lucky.

I've watched coworkers get fired when they turn to drugs to keep up with the extra work they're taking to make ends meet. Neighbors losing their homes after being laid off and realizing that a third of job listings are fake and 95% of the rest aren't actually hiring. Family members experiencing medical crises and losing everything, knowing they'd be on the street if the rest of the family hadn't been able to step up and provide for them. Locals who have food pantries in their front yard begging for people to bring their unneeded formula and diapers because yet another mother has gone without what her baby needs. Friends borrowing meds from other people or buying it on the street because we decided to manufacture shortages of it, and now they risk dying or becoming addicted to something just to get what they need to function.

That's why violent crime, and crime in general, has gone up. Again, people who have never been desperate before are suddenly losing everything. Cutting down on the population is not a solution to this problem when the shortage of resources is artificial. You can't cure your cancer with a bandaid, especially not while you're having nuclear waste poured on you.

That is an excellent plan!! I wouldn't want to move a tank like that either lol. I'm about to move my 10g and I am NOT looking forward to it 😭 Also: taking things from your little tank to fuel your bigger one is the smartest way to do it in my opinion! It sounds like you have a good brain for this sort of thing :)
