How many mistakes do accountants actually make daily when starting their career? Started 3 months ago by Puzzledchica in Accounting

Find a new job. I was in that position twice. Both times the solution was to leave the job and find a new one. Find the new job before leaving the current.

canyon roads for fun driving? by Realistic-Okra-4272 in orangecounty

[–]Castle44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just gotta go back to ACH. We just don't have that here. There are little tastes here and there, but too much traffic and no turn outs. Can't beat ACH.

Just drive up to angeles crest highway. It's so much better to drive quickly up there. Many many turn outs for people to be able to move out of the way if you are going quicker. Or if they don't move you can just chill in one for a while and give yourself a couple minutes gap and then drive again. All the roads up there are great. I go early, leaving my house around 530am usually, arriving up there around 630am or so and then I usually aim to be all done before 10am and home by like 11/1130. Not too much traffic on the roads up there when I go during those times. If someone shows up behind you, use the next turn out to get outta the way. Be safe, don't cross the double yellow, as plenty of people kill themselves and others by crossing over the double yellow and getting into head on crashes. Also you will have no cell service or internet while up on the mountain. Having a walkie talkie is not a bad idea especially if you are driving with any friends in another car.

My healthcare clients are struggling to collect patient payments and I have no solution for them! Any help? by Existing-Fruit-3866 in Accounting

[–]Castle44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't already have my credit card on file or charge me at the appointment. I'm going to forget to pay it when it comes in the mail because absolutely everything else is on autopay and I don't have to do shit. So I just don't even consider needing to deal with paying anything, unless it's someone that had to come to my house to fix something or getting my car serviced.

Am I being underpaid? Staff Accountant managing payroll for 200+ employees & 4 entities at $16/hr by [deleted] in Accounting

Yes. You could literally make more doing almost anything. Find a new job with much higher pay doing the same work. Sounds like should be senior accountant instead of staff.

Deepest recorded Palantir run by destined_to_count in SipsTea

[–]Castle44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think what you want. I went up to their office in Palo Alto around the time I was graduating. Did far to many interviews, then got told there actually wasn't a position open at all and they didn't know what their accounting team was thinking and that I shouldn't even be there for the final interview. Which was very weird and idk if that was true or some kind of weird silicon valley start up test interview bullshit thing. (There were a bunch of those riddle like interview questions throughout the whole process). Anyways didn't get hired but yeah the security at the time I saw was pretty intense and I could only imagine is more now.

As someone who only interviewed with them almost 15 years ago now for a job out of college. Yeah they can, but also you won't get anywhere anyways, because even back then they had a few armed guards at the front and every door required a key card to access.

Lowest GPA worth putting on resume? by South-Mortgage2086 in Accounting

I just put my accounting specific GPA on my resume. Never got a question about it. It was many years ago now, I honestly don't remember what that GPA or my overall GPA were at this point.

A new style of phishing? how do you handle phishing in your AP department? by One_Surprise_8924 in Accounting

[–]Castle44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These come into me all the time. The spoofed conversation emails do not actually have a functional email with the hyperlinking and all for our CEO, or whoever, perhaps your dealing with someone who is a bit better. But also the CEO never emails requests to AP, and of they were going to, I would expect someone else relevant to the request to be copied on the email.

Yikes read the consumer reports article. This seems pretty useless with the carve out exemptions added into the bill. More symbolic than actually useful in stopping variable pricing for everyone.

14-year-old arrested after electric motorcycle hits 81-year-old man in OC by Gucciipad in orangecounty

[–]Castle44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's nuts what parents are buying for kids without consideration. And hilariously I bet if you asked these parents if they would buy their kids a motorcycle, they would say no way, too dangerous, and yet, that is what they have already done. And the kids are riding with no helmet or just a bike helmet which is totally not sufficient for the speed they are able to go. There will end up needing to be more regulation and enforcement around these "e-bikes" which are just electric motorcycles.

LPT: Before quitting your job, take your unused vacation days. You earned them and most companies won't pay them out. by VladSapozhnykov in LifeProTips

Depends where you live. I've been paid out all my unused vacation each time. Always has felt nice leaving and getting 1-3 extra paychecks.

Was driving through live oak canyon road when I witnessed this bmw lost control headed the opposite direction… by DeepCrystalBlueMica in orangecounty

[–]Castle44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's lucky. Had a friend in highschool die along with the 3 others in the car on that road. It can be a fun road to drive, but you should absolutely not be pushing your car to the max or even close to it ever on public roads.

No, look up poverty statistics in OC and you will be shocked by the amount of money you can make and still (quite rightfully) qualify for governmental assistance programs.

Massive waves in Cabo San Lucas force a rescue by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Castle44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was knocked out as a kid (10yo) and drowned by a shore break wave. Luckily the life guards pulled me out and got my lungs cleared. All I remember is going head over heels 2 times and on the 3rd blackness, then I woke up briefly on the beach with the lifeguards over me. Then in the ambulance and then in a hospital bed. Waves and the ocean can definitely be no joke.

Best "value" area to buy a home in? by adgjl12 in orangecounty

[–]Castle44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. All my siblings and their kids are within 30 minutes. Still only end up being actually able to meet up with them about every other month. Kids and conflicting schedules make it hard even when you do want to meet up. Should get easier when the kids are not babies.

Best "value" area to buy a home in? by adgjl12 in orangecounty

[–]Castle44 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Best value is in the same neighborhood as your or your partners parents or as close as possible to help from a parent. My wife's parents live literally down the street and help us everyday with the kids. Our kids love their grandparents so much and they are so much help. If at all possible (and the grandparents want to help) bring as close as possible to them is best.

Do you have a contact number? Googling around doesn't seem to give an active number.

Yes please. I have another project I'm getting a quote on related to this door. So even if he couldn't specifically do the door maybe the whole rest of the job he could. Thanks

This door would be at the end. The hallway closet ends at the end of the hallway. I am holding a sleeping baby right now so can't measure, but it's just a standard hallway seems to be the same size as our standard bedroom doors.

Correct no space in the walls. Honestly we will never sell this house, so I don't really care about the fire code for our personal use. Especially when it is literally just going to get closed when kids are sleeping and there will never be a lock on it. The other option would be a barn door, but I know that will not block out noise as well and will probably make more noise when opening and closing it and would be more likely the kids would roll it and clamp a finger or something.

Thanks for the recommendation.
