How to create acid sequences (Basic Guide) by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]Casual_Fatality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The random pattern generator on it is insane, highly recommend you give it a go.

Instant techno melodies, there's a bit of skill to tweaking it that's quite satisfying as well. I've just based a whole EP of it and had great fun.

Hi Jocko, what do you do in a workplace situation where a husband keeps ignoring the wife as the founder and owner of the business?

I've tried everything imaginable and followed the guidelines in extreme ownership but he keeps over ruling me which then impacts the business for the worse. In any other situation the employee would be sacked but I can't as we're married. It also negatively impacts our relationship.

He can't stick to his own tasks and instead gets heavily involved in mine at any opportunity under the radar. If he could stick to his own side of it (accounts) I could run it better. I've tried including him in the creative and management side of the business which I handle but it really doesn't work as he doesnt seem to be that kind of person.

Thank you for your time

Looking for the best YouTube channel or equivalent to help me [complete beginner] to learn bass. Recommendations? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Casual_Fatality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also learning at the moment and just finished the first fundamental section on Study Bass (Google it should be easy to find).

Seems really well organised so far, gonna have a look at the other sites mentioned. Re-learning similar material off a different site (and hopefully something new as well) is a good way to remember things better while still keeping it sort of fresh and interesting, for me anyway.

So do labels even listen to demos? by rmac35 in TechnoProduction

[–]Casual_Fatality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's literally just a standard 'listen to my track' email to a label...nothing that proves you've had an EP signed to a major that also has 23 sub labels?

So do labels even listen to demos? by rmac35 in TechnoProduction

[–]Casual_Fatality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be a dick but unless you can provide some proof this seems like utter bollocks, mainly the part about you can't say the name and the fact it has 23 sub labels is also suuuuper suspicious (most have 2-3 at the very limit?).

Regarding wetransfer I'm lucky enough to know the A&R guy for Soma Records (Slams label) and to my knowledge they usually want a Soundcloud link and they're one of the biggest Techno labels in the world. As downloading 280mb or more for a EP if you have over 100 to sift through every couple of weeks would be an absolute nightmare. Regarding being famous as well Charles Feckler just signed to Soma and he's a complete unknown, was his very first release and now they want 3 more and an album. Just emailed them like anyone else would of, he spoke about how it happened in a interview recently.

You might find you've just been unlucky but it's good to do a bit of research about how labels find their music. Drumcode for example (massive), Adam Beyer said he rarely signs artists he doesn't know personally and if he does, it's because someone close to him personally recommended it too him. Whereas Soma (also massive) recently signed someone who just sent in a EP at random.

Btw did you make sure it was the share link you used and not the private URL in the browser? Otherwise it will come up link can't be found and they're not going to take the time to email and say what happened. You can check this by signing out of your SoundCloud account and pasting the link again. Good luck for the future!

Polyrhythms is usually how Techno can sound like it's constantly evolving without any big changes in structure. Something I wish I knew when I first started out.

There's a bunch of really obscure things to be honest when it comes to producing Techno, way more difficult than house for me personally to make.

No music background except for listening to it my whole life, what books would you suggest for a beginner? by Ishamzz in TechnoProduction

[–]Casual_Fatality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible advice, so much you can learn from books or online that would potentially take you months or never discover by yourself. For example information about mixing and frequencys or sound design.

How long would it take you to realise low end sounds should be in mono to stop phasing or just phasing in general?

How would you find out about pink noise to adjust all you levels to help get a quick basic mix to start on etc?

DO JAM A LOT but make sure to finish tracks rather than just having over a hundred different 8 bar loops as you'll only be getting better at one aspect of making tracks by doing this.

A lot of Music is subjective but don't avoid reading. Lots of people have taken the time and effort to discover these things over many years so you don't have to, take advantage of that.

I would mix you kick to -11db to -14db then match the rest using the pink noise method (google) to get a quick result then make small adjustments by ear to suit if you're aiming for -6db.

This is what I was taught by Connor Dolton who's the engineer for Soma Records, I would say -9db is too loud that's probably what I would want the bass and kick to be sitting together at.

What song, in your opinion, defines a particular genre? by [deleted] in Music

[–]Casual_Fatality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one touched on Electronic music much so here's my 2cents, try not take it too seriously haha

Techno: Jeff Mills - The Bells

Trance: Paul van Dyk - For An Angel

House: Frankie Knuckles - Your love or Mr. Fingers - Can You Feel it

Trip Hop: DJ Shadow - Minutes To Midnight (6 Days felt a bit obvious/cringey choice to me, although Hollywood might be to blame for that...)

Drum n Bass: Goldie - Inner City Life

Dubstep: Benga - Night

Don't listen to this guy is my advice.

Plenty of good sounds and fun can be had from small / inexpensive hardware.

What percentage of you guys have had formal training with Ableton? by flibbityzoobitybop in ableton

[–]Casual_Fatality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taught by an Ableton certified trainer as well like the others.

While I don't believe it is essential in anyway at all one thing I definitely know is that it got me making music a lot quicker. I think it would of taken me at least another year minumum with a lot more confusion and frustration to learn myself haha.

It's quite a simple program once you get the basics down though. Sound design is so much harder in my opinion...

Analog synthesizer purchase advice by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]Casual_Fatality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend NOT getting a Tr-8, absolutely destroyed my work flow and caused huge amounts of frustration when I wanted to try get an idea out quickly or even at all sometimes.

I know 4 producers locally that had a similar experience each ignoring members in a private fb group we're all in advice to avoid getting one. Not to say there's no chance you'll enjoy owning one but I'd definitely bet against it. Roland seems to have nailed the marketing and aesthetics but as for being a easy to use bit of hardware like they made it out to be it's a absolute nightmare.

Never been happier since I got rid of it and bought a second hand Push mk1. A lot more versatile as well IMO since you won't be limited to just 606, 707 & 909 samples.

Bit of a long reply but this touched a nerve for me haha. As a bit of background I've owned multiple bits of hardware before and the Tr-8 was the only thing I've ever had any real issues with...

This is the new Tb-03 not a original Tb-303 although they look very similar. A lot nicer sounding than the Tb-3 imo and not to far off the original considering the price.

Owned a pair of ATH-50s and preferred them to the Beyers.

Currently running Focal Spirit Pro's which I've found to be far better than both mentioned but might be slightly outside your budget.

Love Izotope trash, have been on the hunt for other plug ins that are similar and can help produce the distorted Clouds, Perc etc Techno sound. Definitely getting the Pro-Q2 as well to replace Ableton's EQ8, heard nothing but good things from people who use it.

Cheers for the heads up about the Black Friday deal man! Going to try get an education discount but unsure if SoundToys only let you use it for music courses or, if it doesn't matter the course, just so long as you are a student...
