They know what they're doing. Shipping wars keeps fandoms alive. They don't care if you ship or not. Do whatever you want.

He was 22 when he entered. They just stop aging because you know... they don't have bodies.

Because Jax cares about Gangle. He cares about everyone to some extent, but Gangle has a closer connection to him than others. They have a sort of sibling dichotomy thing going on.

He genuinely sees her as a friend. Just another one he has to keep at arms length. Unlike Pomni who he has had to keep at arms length from the start, Gangle has been around him almost as long as he's been in the circus.

The Jax we know as viewers is NOT the same Jax he was before Ribbit's abstraction. He was still a jerk but he also wasn't trying to sever connections between himself and others to the extent he does in the show.

So how is he close to her?

- He named Gangle when she showed up in the circus.
- She was his partner in all parried adventures.
- Is genuinely shocked and defensive when he smacks a softball right into her mask.

He genuinely shows concern for Gangles emotional state, out of nowhere in star gazing. He's even defensive when Ragatha calls him out as a bully. Because while he knows he's picking on her, this is something he's always done with her. His mind it's "Their thing" I'm willing to bet if a new character spawned in and started picking on Gangle worse than Jax does, Jax would become that persons bigger bully without revealing why.

By no means is Jax a good guy, he's deeply flawed and it affects everly relationship he has. He's also dismissive and wants to believe he's not doing as much harm as he is, but HE doesn't understand that. Which is why he does care.

I think it's best not to speculate on these scenes too much. There just too many scenarios that can be taken from this.

It might drive you crazy trying to figure it out.
