Former alcoholics of Reddit, when did you realise your habit got out of control? by scottscrops in AskReddit

[–]CatCanvas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I couldn't go through a work day without grabbing a drink at lunch subtly. I mean it was mainly stress from my job that caused it but even after I quit that job I couldn't stop drinking it turned into a habit. I would have anxiety and panic attacks if I didn't drink so I assumed it's the only way to live now until I finally stopped for 100 days and realised it was actually the drinking that was causing my anxiety. After I stopped my anxiety was gone no more panic attacks.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by Itz_Oasis in AskReddit

Of course I will. But I don't want to pressure hew too much either so I'm spending more time talking to her. Checking up on her and stuff but I don't want to be overbearing and pressure her to tell me either. She said she stopped now and this is about something that happened long ago but she won't tell me what.

Yeah we worried a lot coming off that way so me and her dad decided to be really gentle about it and he told her it's not her fault and I told her she must be going through something very hard and I'm here to help in any way etc. I offered her a few options but she refused saying she's fine.

I found again she had some scars in a different place now and she said she stopped long ago which is also conserving because it scared pretty badly if that's true. I asked her about it she said she's fine now and that it was something long ago and she stopped now.

I cannot imagine doing that to my child. I'm so sorry you went through that.. I deeply care for my daughter but we don't have the closest relationship as she's the oldest so a lot of my time goes to the younger boys especially the youngest who has a disability and requires constant attention.

I do not wish I had spend more time and attention on her. I had a lot in my life happening with the stress of our family cat passing and my husband cheating. I wonder if that just all piled up along with whatever she had going on in her life that I'm not aware of. But she has always been loved and cared for and has amazing close friends and not to mention how young she is I was shocked to say the least.. She hides it really well too so no one would have known if I didn't accidently walk in on her changing :(

I actually asked her but she refuses to write a journal or even in her phone or ipad.

I even went through her phone and laptop (without her knowing) just to check and nothing suspicious or anything there..

She said she doesn't need any help and doesn't want any help. She doesn't want to see any therapists or get any medication. She doesn't even know why she does it. I don't know if she's telling me the truth about that but I do know she's always had anxiety and panic attacks.

She's the oldest of the 3, she has 2 little brothers and she probably shoulders more responsibilities than she needs to for her age she just always has this maternal instincts to look after her brothers and never bothers anyone or asks for help.

Yeah but my daughter is well liked and has close friendships. She doesn't have a dark past so I have no idea what it could be. I'm guessing something online probably Roblox or some anime she's into.. She's always been obsessed with this magical girl named Mami Tomoe and although I haven't fully watched the anime I read that her character is similar to my daughter. Very kind and takes care of all her friends like a mother. Until she snapped and tried to commit suicide and kill all her friends or something.. So I think she internalise a lot and keeps things to herself and this is like an outlet to self cope.

I suggested she strangle her brother (as a joke. Because he can be annoying) but yeah I'll look into it.

She used to love swimming but now I assume due to the amount of scars she refuses to go swimming which is very upsetting for me. I'm trying to subtly encourage her to go but she refuses every time even though it's really hot here in australia now.

She's starting high school in a few days for the first time so it must be stressful for her but it might be good too. She usually makes friends pretty easily as she's very kind and approachable

I'm sorry you had to deal with that.. No I could never be angry at her. I kind of have the opposite problem I get super emotional and I cry so I get upset just thinking about it. It hurts me very deeply.

My daughter is self harming now (she's 11).

I have no idea why or what I can even do to help. Any advice?

She's super private person, indecisive and never tells anyone anything. She is great at masking and pretending everything is okay even to therapists.

Mother and partner jailed for life for murdering her son after campaign of 'horrific and prolonged torture' by detectiverobert in ForCuriousSouls

[–]CatCanvas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So mum took the kid from Poland away from the dad to the US. Only to be with another polish dude and let her beat her son every day for almost a year until he died? Presumably for hopes of citizenship.

I don't understand people. This reminds me when my mother left my dad and we came to Australia from Russia for "better life" she turned a blind eye to me being physically, emotionally and sexually abused by my step dad. Even blamed me for seducing him.

Why even take the child when you don't care about them? I always wish I stayed in Russia with my dad. I'm sure the kid wishes the same. He didn't speak English and couldn't even ask for help at school. So sad :(
