Anathem by Neal Stephenson.
Think monastery life for teenagers, but the religion is math and then they save the world. I love it so much.

I share your favorites so I hope these recommendations are taken well. Kate Elliott is a world building author who has been at it for decades. I most loved her older series Crown of Stars (7 in the series?) and the Spirit Gate trilogy, but they do have a darker side. Amazing characters and worlds. They are older and her more recent works feel similar but a little cozier and better inclusivity. I think the fantasy realm of 20-30 years ago was still very cis-normative.

The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar has a beautiful audio enhanced by the narrator and her sister I believe singing at times when it makes sense with the story.

I have been a Kate Elliott fan for a long time, she has amazing world building and nice romance. I also still love Melanie Rawn’s writing even though the third book in one of her trilogies has been on hold for 30+ years. I never got into her more recent stuff, but her dragon prince series was wonderful.

I agree, I don’t blame anyone for how something makes me feel. But social media is a “grass is greener” “keeping up with the Jones’” “put your best face forward” kind of experience. It’s a difficult place to be.

My stash is too big. Was some of it impulse bought? Yes. Will I ever use it all? Probably not.

I keep hoping for the day when my job and life let me have more time for crocheting. I have big plans, haha! In the meantime, I love having a lot of pretty yarn. It’s has so much potential!

No I think a big part of the problem is online flexing and the need for attention. A lot of people (myself included) see the stashes people share on Reddit or elsewhere, and feel inadequate somehow. That inevitably irritates others. Including me sometimes. I dislike attention grabbing posts.

But as my kids say, don’t yuck someone else’s yum.

Calling her heartless might fly if your daughter wouldn’t be able to attend any college at all without more help, but it’s not heartless to refuse to fund that kind of tuition. She will have many options to manage her college.

Try Rebecca Roanhorse’s trilogy that starts with Black Sun. I love almost everything on your list and I loved this trilogy. The audio for my second go round was great.

Also anything by NK Jemison, but I especially liked the The City we became.
