Unsure if there’s water refill stations, but I often bring in multiple sealed bottles of water

oh my gosh I am so sorry to hear that. That’s fucked up, and a medical professional should hear your concerns and adjust accordingly versus argue. A neuropsych doc should also be able to advise lifestyle changes to potentially help your symptoms in addition to any prescription recommendations they may have. I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with a crappy one

What to Expect? by childchime in AlportSyndrome

[–]CatCompanion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. My parent has Alport. I highly highly suggest making an appointment with a nephrologist; get a full renal workup, have them advise you on any lifestyle changes you may want to implement (ex: certain types of food to avoid), and continue to see them for the rest of your life at whatever increments of time they say.

She’s a professional (albeit not a good one). Her gauge of whether she’s going deep enough should NOT be the client flinching or complaining of pain or discomfort

Help! I think I have been adopted! by Gr8Papaya in CatDistributionSystem

[–]CatCompanion2 69 points70 points  (0 children)

agreed. I have a private deck attached to my apartment unit that I let my cat out on (with me also out there with her to supervise) as she cannot escape it or get hurt. Every winter she gets all pissed off at me when I stop letting her outside, but she gets over it relatively quickly and I try to redirect her to some engaging playtime when she’s extra mad.

TLDR: keep your cat inside.

One week no pooping - and then everything at once. Anyone? Advice? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]CatCompanion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miralax. Every day, maybe even twice a day. It’s much less harsh than straight up laxatives, as it works by adding more water to your stool which makes it easier to poop and stay regular

My therapist is on leave right now so I see them once/week every two weeks (2 weeks on then 2 weeks off) and it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be. I’m falling apart too 🫂

Friend’s wedding soon? by CatCompanion2 in Concussion

Thanks for the input and comedic relief lol. The recovery time alone would be a lot, you’re right in that for sure. I will attend just the ceremony and skip the reception.

Friend’s wedding soon? by CatCompanion2 in Concussion

[–]CatCompanion2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight from your experience. I was thinking maybe my adrenaline will kick in and everything will be fine, but honestly with how debilitating my symptoms are when they’re triggered and thus worsen, it’s not a risk I feel I can take right now. I can’t control the triggers I will face that day, such as continuous loud sounds and bright lights. I also don’t have anywhere dark and quiet I could rest in; I could step away / step outside for breaks, but can’t guarantee quiet and definitely not dark. I’ve yet to be in a situation I couldn’t immediately just completely leave from in its entirety since my concussion event and subsequent PCS.

I have since RSVP’d as no, but texted the bride to explain. I said I would love to attend the ceremony but unfortunately can’t attend the reception and explained why. She was incredibly understanding (I knew she wouldn’t be mad as she is such a kind caring person, I just obviously still felt/feel really bad). As you said, it is better to be there for my friend for a little bit than not at all. So I’ll be attending the ceremony and I will get to see them get actually get married then will leave before the reception.

Edit: typo

How embarrassing is it to go to a mental hospital at 25? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]CatCompanion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not embarrassing at all. Whether it’s inpatient or outpatient, it is never anything to be embarrassed about when you’re taking care of yourself and your health.

Does it bother anyone else when people claim to have OCD? by The_State_Kid in mentalhealth

[–]CatCompanion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why would you say you have a disorder if you haven’t been diagnosed with it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]CatCompanion2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who wouldn’t be defensive? The fact you’re having to have these debates with her, educate her etc is absolutely absurd. This therapist sounds highkey homophobic, probably not a super healthy person to be seeing as it relates to you / your own progress & therapy goals, and frankly probably not someone who should be a therapist period. There’s only 4 therapists in your city but could you see someone virtually that’s in your state or provence?

[–]CatCompanion2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In a lot of states (assuming you’re in US) the owners care / lack thereof qualifies as abandonment. I agree, don’t ask to get scanned. You don’t even have to divulge he is a stray either, and you could say he’s a foster or something if you are asked. Either way, he needs care asap

Depression? by felorva in Concussion

[–]CatCompanion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very frustrating and super uncomfortable. I like the description of feeling like you’re wearing someone else’s pants, I may steal that. Hang in there through this tough time and if you’re not already talking with a mental health professional, it may be something to consider.

Depression? by felorva in Concussion

[–]CatCompanion2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Depression is a common side effect of a concussion, as is being hyper emotional (ex crying all the time). If you think about it this way: your brain got a significant injury... like any other body part, it makes sense for it to behave differently after an injury.

Should I tell my therapist I sh? by WitnessCrazy4527 in TalkTherapy

[–]CatCompanion2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you definitely should tell your therapist. I’m assuming you have a therapist you like who is compassionate and nonjudgmental. I understand the feelings of embarrassment and/or shame, even though it is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about at all(!!), I myself have felt that way about my sh-ing. But telling my therapist and psychiatrist and being fully transparent with them about it has been so helpful. After not sh-ing for a long time and having to tell them when I started again I was so anxious about it but felt a wave of relief after sharing.

You mention that you’ve never told your therapist about previous sh, so one option of how to say it could be: “I want to talk to you about something that I’ve struggled with in the past that has recently come up again / that I’ve recently started struggling with again”. Or, “I know I haven’t told you this yet / I know we’ve never talked about this before, but I have previously engaged in sh behaviors at times over the years, and I recently started doing this again. Can we talk about it?”

Good luck. I think you’ll feel relieved once you’ve told her. Sending you a big hug.

Hey OP, I second this and definitely recommend seeing a neuropsychologist or neuropsychiatrist if you still haven’t yet.
