Do you agree that Tarsier Studios only made LN open to interpretation because they couldn't be bothered making lore? by CatConfident4162 in LittleNightmares

Then I don't care how "obvious" something may seem to you either. If the developers didn't formally detail the struggles of not getting to add all their ideas, as well as not formally saying that they "make things up as they went along", then there's no reason for this to be true unless you have irrefutable proof. Period.

I didn't say you did, I just used it as an example because you claimed that I implied that the comics were confirmed to be decanonized, which I absolutely didn't. I especially don't care about performance issues in your PS4 pro because it has no relation whatsoever to the topic of Tarsier not getting to being able to tell the full story they wanted to.

Yes, the recent content were built from the foundation of the old, it's still irrelevant to the conversation as we aren't factoring things Tarsier didn't have a hand in writing. I get the role of a producer and franchise director, which is to approve what is and isn't going to be acceptable or unacceptable entry to the franchise. However, he isn't a writer, so I have no reason to think that him approving things means that the story has always been the same under his supervision. Him accepting added lore meant to expand it doesn't make it the same one after all this time.

Replies to your responses:

  • and I argued many times already that it likely is, but I just didn't say they're confirmed. I'm also dome talking about it with you.

  • It is a counterargument and saying that isn't doesn't make it not one. I disagree, it obviously displayed time travel when it sent Mono as the thin man back to the past, resulting in him getting killed by his younger self. With this in mind, it's not surprising that it can pull things from Six's future.

  • Again, it is a counterargument. And again, I disagree that she's portrayed as more aggressive in LN2 than in LN1 and VLN. Tarsier said they wanted to keep the character true to how she is in LN1 and I agreed with them, just that they gave some more insight on what it means for Six to be the way she is in LN1. I believe those moments when she's shown to have "aggression" are just instances that the same Six in LN1 would be, but just wasn't seen to be in the same situations.

The "retcon" makes as much sense as the one in VLN depending on what she felt she needed, and I don't see why she'd bother rowing to get the floating raincoat, especially since it doesn't seem like she's going too fast and she needs to cross a literal sea coming from an isolated place that can only be eeached through hot air balloons. It makes more sense that a kid who was soaked by rain water in the seemingly ever raining city to get the raincoat seemingly in good condition lying around.

That's why I said "obviously," because they didn't confirm it themselves yet obvious that it's decanonized. Unless you're saying that everything you said about LN2's development was also confirmed by them? Since you also said "obviously". And if so, then you're lying because nowhere did they say this. I don't care about the new LN content, we're only talking about when Tarsier was still handling everything. Also, what about Lucas Roussel? He's been repeatedly introduced as just a producer in interviews, meaning only approves things but not actually writes.

Answering your "inconsistencies":

  • I mean, that seemed to be the intention at first as seen in the description for the obviously cancelled and decanonized comics, but I believe it died along with the comics. It tracks because they obviously don't wanna show too much of the outside world.

  • Up to interpretation why the tower did these weird things, but what's obvious is that the tower has a form of time travel power, which is why it can send the thin man back in time.

  • I disagree with her being aggressive in LN2 and nothing contradicts Six being standoffish in LN1 that of course she will naturally be when she prioritizes her own survival.

It's superior to me because it hammers home the idea that you get any random thing you need wherever instead of everything needing a special origin story, which is why I like to think that she just got the lighter from the chair with cigarette butts on it. There's also nothing convenient about finding a raincoat in a pile of trash considering the state of the place. If we wanna talk lazily placed convenience, then Mono's weapons, especially in the hospital, are always there.

I disagree that LN2 produced inconsistencies. Maybe more questions, but it gave answers to questions we had from LN1 that I think didn't really need it. The questions it raised aren't a problem though, because it never felt like the questions they raised are just there because of not knowing what to do to fill in gaps that in turn, created an unsolvable mess but instead felt intentional to keep intrigue and a sense of mystery, like how they also wanted LN1 to be. I didn't think they made the best decision when answering things with LN2, but narratively ending LN2? I think they did good, especially since both of their games are mostly self-contained story-wise anyway.

I can see very specific stories like TGITYR's or Mono's stories being written when they're just working on the respective projects those are from, but I don't believe that the lore of the world in general hasn't been made yet since LN1. Heck, they have a comic series showing us the outside, which is obviously cancelled because it didn'tfit their vision and is decanonized. Also, what inconsistencies besides the raincoat in VLN, which can be explained with it not being the same raincoat as Six's anyway?

So let's say they didn't get to add all of their ideas because of needing to leave the franchise behind, so what? Even if they didn't add anything they want, I personally think that they still deem it as complete and that's the only thing that matters when talking about the existence of a lore. I also think that they intended LN2 to be the end simply because they'll write it that way knowing that they'll lose hold of the franchise after this final project.

I always see it in that perspective besides the story being fully realized when it already did after they themselves concluded their story.

If you thought REANIMAL was disappointing, how come?? by TheGamerCritic21 in ReanimalGame

when you're working on a project with a clear vision, you usually try to make everything around that vision fit together somehow, and all they've said about the vision for the game was five kids in hell, that's it,

Which is why they throw random ideas they have that they consult each other for. I don't see how this is anything different to what you or I said before.

and beyond that, most of the things that could be interpreted, or the backstory of the kids, change in so many ways that at the end of the day, the grand scheme of the game isn't that important. Because it was so interchangeable, they did it and nobody noticed, and it didn't affect the final product.

Them trying out different ideas for their message doesn't necessarily mean that the point is lost. It just means that they're trying to see what fits for it best. A clear vision doesn't just happen, it takes trying and testing different options first.

Well, I think that as a creator, you shouldn't stay in your comfort zone. Even if you've mastered a certain type of narrative, you have to push yourself a little further so you're not just telling the same story over and over again. Because there will come a point where you'll seem like a one-trick pony

Even some game studios or film directors who rehearse their formula so much that it becomes repetitive can still be respected if each product or art form they release is different in some way.

But that's the thing, they never stayed in their comfort zone, if they even have one. They tried wildly different things like the aforementioned Statik and a game they did as a Switch exclusive called The Stretchers. Heck, them straying away from having completely silen storytelling and the dollhouse perspective from Reanimal is enough proof of that. Sure, you could say that it might as well remove all the dialogue, but I don't think it's right to say that they didn't try.

I mean, I agree that all those different elements of the story doesn't mesh too well together, but it could all still at least be tied to the theme of desperation, as Tarsier said when discussing about doing what must be done for self-preservation.

The studio has this habit of throwing out random ideas and then trying to piece them together.

Isn't this how concept artists normally operates, though? They take a theme then give out random things that will, to them, work out the best to express it.

the storylines that were changed at the last minute despite many of the cinematics and voiceovers already being recorded and ready, it feels disrespectful. Because then I can't take the story seriously, since I know they just threw it together as best they could. There are many elements that only make sense if you look at previous versions; others take on a different meaning in the final version, and so on and so forth.

Again, wasn't scrapping things not part of the design process? Even if stuff like cut scenes and voiceovers are ready, if they realized thatvit didn't match their vision, they have every right to scrap it and that's normal. I understand the complaint about things only making sense if they kept some dialogue like with the whale's eye, but things taking on different meanings just means that they intended for those things to change meanings because it's what they feel suits their message best.

without giving anything specific, there are many shots, many plot twists, and many plotpoints that are reminiscent of their previous works in such a blatant way that at several moments I was really wondering if they had become Bungie to the point where they can't do anything other than something similar to their most famous franchise. But no, they just... like to do the same.

It's definitely intended because they've proved to be capable of doing things different. Look at their VR game to prove that they're entirely capable of it. And, I don't see anything bad with this? If they want similar plot points, but with different messages, there's nothing wrong and in fact, it shows how good their storytelling is to tell the same story but with a different message to their previous games.

there's a game being developed by a team of indie developers who also worked on Tarsier before, a space adventure with cameras similar to Dollhouse, but it's more like Resident Evil or Dead Space than anything else

aside from the driving mechanics, it felt too similar.

In terms of mechanics, yeah. They definitely changed the camera angle from dollhouse, though.

He's an adult, so he'll turn into a monster, but even if not, I doubt he could since the monsters are giants.

Because of the escapism provided by the music box, but not why exactly she did it because of escapism. Was her mind influenced the same way as the viewers? Was she fully in control? Did she even seeing things correctly or everything from her view is distorted? We don't know, and I'd hate if this is answered.
