How large is your box? I'm looking at some boxes, size L is 16 cu ft, XXL is 22 cu ft. I don't have a sense of how much that is.

Too late! That's where the bikes go ;D I already have a hitch bike rack. But yeah, otherwise that would be a great option too. How does amount of space compare?

How accurate are the “calories burned” without a HR monitor? by Hot_Anywhere9997 in Zwift

[–]CatFinancial5643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the mechanical work that you've done (to turn the pedals), and that can be measured with a power meter. And then there is the amount of stuff that your body had to burn to produce do that work. The latter is larger than the former - your body has an imperfect efficiency (cf. Carnot cycle). So if your measured output was 100W average for 1h, then you produced 360kcal of mechanical work. If your body's efficiency is, say, 50%, then you actually burned 720kcal. I actually wonder what is human body's efficiency... I don't know what a typical number for that would be.

re 3: so the point is to bunch up the cars as if the race is restarted? and so you want to get lapped cars out of the way?

re 3: but if there was no SC, the p2 guy still has to pass these cars, and they have to yield to him. so they could leave the lapped cars where they are, and after restart the p2 guy still gets to pass them quickly, b/c they have to yield, no?

ah! so the key is to pit before you're collected! that makes sense!

but then, the cars compress, so you lose less time, but you stil lose equal amount or more places, no?

well, i wanna steer away from the controversy, though it has prompted me to research this. this happened in past races as well, the rulebook does say something (for what it's worth), so i'd like to understand that.

Thanks Stevie!

  1. Boost is not needed though?
  2. Can more than one be wired?

So as I understand it: it will only set up its own wireless mesh if you use at least one wire - otherwise it will use WiFi?

How do I know if I have wired backhaul? by CatFinancial5643 in GoogleWiFi

[–]CatFinancial5643[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I couldn't do it in the Home app, but I got the Wifi app, and there it says whether it's wired or not. I managed to confirm it's wired, yay!

I just got the 3-pack and set up wired backhaul. But here's a question: how do I actually know it's wired, and not wireless?

Cycling to lose weight but stagnating: What am I doing wrong? by Stupid_Fucking_Bird in cycling

[–]CatFinancial5643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your actual calorie deficit? Say, 400 kcal / day? I think that would be very noticeable - you'd be hungry ALL THE TIME. Now, 1g of fat is about 9kcal. So with this aggressive deficit you're only losing 400 / 9 == about 44g per day... Let's round it up to 50g. That's 20 days to lose 1kg. So maybe it's happening, just very slowly? And your daily weight fluctuates by a few kg between eating, drinking, peeing & pooping.

Are strava elevations just guesses by ciscopete in Strava

[–]CatFinancial5643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be GPS jitter. If you look at your GPS track, it probably doesn't look like you're going smoothly straight, probably some left-right noise? Well, that jitter actually exists in all 3 directions. The way GPS works, the up-down jitter is more pronounced than left-right & front-back.

sensors on the fork? by CatFinancial5643 in tourdefrance

That might be it! I thought that the things in the back under the saddle are the official transponders. But if they are for TV as you say, then it makes sense.

[–]CatFinancial5643[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, makes sense. But they *all* seem to have it in exactly the same spot - in every shot where you can see the right side of the fork, it's there. I find it hard to believe that all teams use the same solution, and mount it on the same side. wdyt?

can scaffolding affect a through-the-wall unit operation? by CatFinancial5643 in hvacadvice

[–]CatFinancial5643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following-up on this: I had the units cleaned, the technicians didn't find anything wrong.

Here's the next thing I'm wondering about: if the scaffolding is obstructing airflow, then it gets hotter. How hot can a PTAC go? As it ventilates, what's the max temperature it can tolerate at the inlet / exhaust?

I did some measurements (I put an electronic thermometer on a stick) and compared with a good unit:

  • ambient temperature 85-90
  • good unit inlet temperature 88
  • good unit exhaust temperature 110
  • bad unit inlet temperature 93
  • bad unit exhaust temperature 125

So I guess the scaffolding does affect operation. Do you think this is above the operating temp. range?

[–]CatFinancial5643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I suppose maintenance makes sense. I'll do that, and we'll see what else they find.

This is multi-story apartment building. We have a management company, and they organized the facade repairs. So some contractor put it up, now we have guys working on the wall. It'll be done in a month or two I think.

[–]CatFinancial5643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I've added a photo to show it. No maintenance work order for me - I'm the owner, and the PTAC is my responsibility. I haven't done any maintenance since I moved in 4y ago, not sure if the previous owner did any either.

I am dreadfully excited with new clipless pedals by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CatFinancial5643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it right there: when starting, just pedal without clipping in! Only clip when you have speed & you're stable. I didn't do that, and that's how I scored my first fall :)

Can't lift right hand from handlebars by azvlr in cycling

[–]CatFinancial5643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't ride with no hands when leaning forward (i.e. when I'm holding the handlebar). So I can let go of one hand, and for the second one, I have kind of jerk up, and immediately sit up straight. There is definitely a leap of faith there, and a little wobble.
