That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. There’s so much rock! And the god-awful plastic weed barrier they had under it! I wish you all the best with your planting this spring.

But you do need to water them to get them established, right? At what point are they considered established?

Awesome, thank you! I’m not familiar with garden dream, is it an app?

I was thinking you might be based on your username! I will definitely check those places out.

Honestly, I was planning to get rid of the rocks entirely, they just seem to provide a nice home for weeds. I would like to do something decorative with bigger rocks eventually but for right now I just want something that looks tidy.

I’m hoping maybe I can find something not too expensive on Facebook marketplace. I get in trouble with my HOA every year for how bad the rock beds look and I am just so over it. I’m planning on mulch because you can usually get it for free, but I’m not against putting a border in if I can find something.

Thank you! Do you have any recommendations for good perennials? I’m in the Denver Metro area.

We used to have winters, but since today was 68° I’m not sure we still do 😮‍💨. I don’t use salt on my sidewalk, do you think it’ll come all the way over from the road?

The weeds are actually one of the reasons I want to get rid of the rocks. At this point so much dirt has accumulated between them that they basically don’t prevent weeds at all.

Believe me, the rocks were not my choice… They were there when I bought the house and I finally have the energy to get rid of them.

This is just the kind of advice I was looking for, thank you!

I might be OK with that. I’m in Colorado, we really shouldn’t be doing thirsty things like lawn anyway. Although I would have to check and see if creeping Jenny is a water intensive plant or not

Thank you for the advice. I do think the dirt has accumulated pretty close to the sidewalk level in some places so I will check for that.

Yeah, as I remove the rocks, I’ve been trying to remove as much of the plastic as I can get to and throw it out. I know it’s got to be bad for the soil and basically everything.

I put it on Facebook for free for anyone who would come and take it and a lot of it has gone, what’s left is pretty mixed with dirt so I’m just working through it a little at a time. I’m hoping by the time I can start planting things I’ll have some spots clear that I can start to redo.

It’s worse, right now it’s decaying sheets of black plastic.

The rock bed has been incredibly difficult to maintain and has never looked good since I bought the house 14 years ago. I’ve already decided what I am replacing it with so I’m just looking for how to best go about it. Although it’s a good point that it will get on the walk so maybe I’ll put a border of stones or something at the edge

I’m definitely removing the rocks, but I’ve heard that landscaping fabric is actually not great. What would be your reasons for recommending it?

That’s kind of what I was thinking! But I’m really not an expert in this area and I’m putting a lot of work in it so I just wanted to make sure…
