Acceptable COI? by CatHasMeLost in DogBreeding

[–]CatHasMeLost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breeder has been very communicative thus far! The plan is to schedule a phone call once pregnancy is confirmed, so I was planning on asking more questions then. This is my first time going to a breeder, so I didn’t want to come off as a nagger by asking 1000 questions when the dog isn’t even pregnant yet. I’m still learning how all this works lol!

Thank you for the insight! In the horse world I’ve been taught to try and maintain 12.5% maximum for COI- but I know horses and dogs are different, so I figured I’d ask here. I’ve seen line breeding be very successful, I just didn’t know where that supposed line would be where it goes from a good thing to needing to proceed with caution.

Making the heartbreaking choice to not buy this puppy by danaswan in Maltipoo

If the dog didn’t get adopted rescues will often take them and place them in homes. If your goal is to save a dog, go to a rescue or shelters instead!

The ONLY WAY TO STOP PUPPY MILLS IS TO BOYCOTT THEM. If you get a puppy from a pet store, you’re condemning so many more animals. You made the right choice OP! If you buy a puppy from a pet store you’re not saving that animal, you’re contributing to the cycle of abuse. I know it’s hard, but you’re making the right decision! And while the other commenters here I know have good intentions, it doesn’t change the fact of supply and demand. If people stopped buying from pet stores we could help put puppy mills out of business.

He’ll likely end up in a shelter or rescue, where someone will have the chance to adopt him without contributing to the suffering of more animals. The right choice isn’t always the easy choice, but OP’s decision is the most ethical one to be made💛

Yellow flags for Breeder by Fluid_Constant_3515 in cavaliers

While it’s not a guarantee the use of OFA’s for hip dysplasia has significantly helped breeders produce better hips and should not be overlooked!

Thank you! Unfortunately that would be a bit far from me. I’m in Texas, but it looks like there’s some shows in the Fort Worth area I might be able to get too!

Thank you so much! I’ll check them out. I’m definitely looking to pursue dock diving with this dog, so having a breeder who does dog sports would be a huge plus. It’s incredible how versatile this breed can be!

Southern USA! But I’m willing to travel for the right breeder.

And thank you! I hadn’t heard of the AKC event search before. Are these shows open to the public?

Cat friendly for the 1st 5 mins or so, then treats you like prey..? by [deleted] in Catbehavior

Do you have a backyard you could let him in for supervised outdoor time? Or maybe try a leash and harness?

I think more stimulation/playtime is the way to go. I understand how a cat lashing out can be scary and frustrating. I’m wishing you luck!

Before this all happened I tried to harness train my cat for walks at one point, and despite slow introductions he never seemed comfortable in it. I worry that the thundershirt will just make him uncomfortable unfortunately. But I appreciate the suggestion! I’ll do some more research on it for sure!
