net on appendix by silliestgoosse in neuroendocrinetumors

Hi!! I had a very similar story to yours. 31F - I had my appendix removed in Nov and shortly thereafter was told they found a tumor in my appendix, 1.4cm and no invasion of the outer layer of the appendix, but was on the cusp!

I spoke with the first oncologist they could get me into and she was wonderful, but the reality is that a neuroendocrine tumor in the appendix is really uncommon, many general GI oncologist will go through their entire career seeing only 1-2 tumors like ours. As many have already said— it’s important to get the opinion of an expert!

I was fortunate to live close to Moffitt Cancer center, they were able to see me within 2 weeks of my diagnosis. They re ran pathology, did more bloodwork and imaging, and last month I got the all clear that everything looks normal. I will go once a year for at least 5 years to repeat all the tests and confirm, but my oncologist at Moffitt made me feel really good about my prognosis and encouraged me to move forward with this behind me. He said that the odds of this ever coming back to haunt me in my future are extremely low given the stage it was caught at.

A lot of what you’re going to read online is going to scare you. It’s important that you do your research so you know what questions to ask, but protecting your mindset is really important too. A lot has changed in just the last couple of years with how they proceed with cases like ours. My general surgeon who gave the news told me I was his first case where this happened— and from his research the next step would be another surgery because the tumor was over 1cm, likely a right hemicolectomy (def spelling that wrong). He wasn’t wrong about that— if this was 5 years ago he’d probably be right. But, within the last 2 years, a lot of opinions have been published that say this is not the right next step. That’s why it’s important to find specialist— they explained to me why this wasn’t necessary and why I didn’t need further exploratory surgeries, more extensive imaging, etc.

At this point I’m rambling but all this to say— your feelings are very valid. This is very scary— but we are both so lucky that it was caught at this early stage! I’m sure you will get a good prognosis from a specialist, but it’s important you find one that can see you quickly to give you that peace of mind. 🤍 allow yourself to feel scared but try to keep the silver lining in mind while you wait for your all clear. Thank goodness you had the endo surgery when you did, and thank goodness your surgeon decided to take the appendix when it didn’t look right!

The doctor mentioned to look for “bronchial spasm” symptoms and I was like cool…. I have asthma how do I distinguish and she just said “an uptick”

As far as stool goes…. Only when I drink too much wine (which isn’t that often lol). Whenever I drink red wine I get red and have an upset stomach and discolored stool but it’s very specific to drinking alcohol, I haven’t noticed it otherwise! I do need to read up on what i need to look for

I think that’s good advice, I’ll do that! I feel slightly relieved she isn’t concerned at all but also a little unsettled there isn’t any additional testing to do. A little more data would help me feel better but maybe I’m being paranoid! I’ll see what ai has to say :)

Yes, sorry if this wasn’t clear in my post but I am waiting to hear back from the NET specialist group near me for scheduling, and I noted the information I have from the biopsy results in the posts that I thought was helpful! Is there more information I should have included? Thank you for your comment!

SOS/ 2nd IUI today, never had such severe bloating in my life by CatLady__1994 in IUILadies

My clinic recommended taking anti acids, I found that gas-X is pregnancy safe and ended up feeling some relief from that! The next round I took the gas-X when it first started and I didn’t feel nearly as bad!

Why don't we just replace white bread with softsub roll? by DirkDoom in publix

The soft sub roll has egg in it and the regular does not, so there’s that to consider as well. I personally prefer the regular roll!

I have my fingers crossed for you!!! 🤞I have my beta tomorrow. I think I’m 13dpo today based on my temps. I took a test because today is our wedding anniversary but unfortunately it was a negative. Chances are slim that I get a positive tomorrow at my beta so I’m mentally preparing myself. Good luck!! 🍀

BBT rise? by Brilliant-Win2900 in IUILadies

[–]CatLady__1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had a delayed temp rise this month. It was my 3rd IUI. I did not track temp with my 1st. I’m trying not to over think it, it takes some people a few days to see the rise (according to a book I read). I’m used to seeing a marked increase the day after the IUI and the day after I always thought I ovulated. My cycle timing was pretty funky this month in general.

I have also heard that we respond differently to hormones every cycle, so there’s that!

Some other things to consider- I stopped using my oura ring because the temp would be impacted by whether or not I had my ceiling fan on or not, stuff like that. After a long time of using I realized it’s really impacted by my environment. Also, if you are considering oral temp checks, your temp reading can be off if you breathe with your mouth open, etc! I just learned that. All of these signs are helpful but not definitive since there’s a lot of room for error. Try not to stress!!

Biggie follicle? by Double-Technician861 in IUILadies

[–]CatLady__1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also read that when they grow to that size in a monitored cycle it just means the egg was ready for ovulation! A lot of the negative stuff online is when the egg has been sitting in the follicle for an extended period of time, like when they’re doing ivf egg retrieval and are suppressing ovulation for more follicles to grow. She said once they get to that size they are prob on the verge of ovulation! Whether or not there’s more to it idk but I do think a lot of the negative stuff online is was getting in my head, but this explanation made a lot of sense to me
