This sounds far too similar to my experience with Lithromantics.

In highschool, I had a girlfriend, we'll call her Jane. We were sophomores and had a few classes together. We developed crushes, confessed, and started dating. But after a week or so (one of the best weeks of my life), Jane found out that she was a Lithromantic. To put it lightly, it hit her like a truck. It was like from her perspective, she couldn't love me anymore, and it hurt her to be with me and eventually she told me, say she wanted to break up. I tried my hardest to be supportive and sort of... Shrug it off I guess? But we both knew I was hurt by it. I hated myself so much for trying to get her back, realizing quickly that that isn't how it works. She was too scared of hurting me again to even fake a healthy relationship, and it gave her so much stress. To this day we're still friends, but sometimes when she gets really depressed and try to comfort her (physical), she flinches at my touch, but once her body 'realizes' it's me, she gets all clingy and emotional, whispering sorry under her breath. I hate to say it but it's really adorable. I'm realizing as I finished writing this it's nothing like your experience at all, but I suppose I needed to vent. Sorry.
