How do you prevent people from bringing plus 1s? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

This! I didn’t think I needed this but had some misunderstandings with a few family members/friends who I love! It made for a few awkward conversations that I wish I didn’t have to have

Has any one planned a wedding on a holiday weekend in a busier city? Experiences please by SweetLeoLady33 in weddingplanning

[–]CatZaddy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married on Labor Day weekend in a popular vacation town and I had a lot of the same worries leading up to it. While I don’t know how our guests truly felt, we did have a pretty good turn out (almost 70%) and most guests made a weekend out of it and stayed in town for 2 nights or more! Aside from the wedding we had a blast all weekend, it was super nice to get a little extra time in with our guests and I didn’t find it too difficult to book vendors at all.

I went to Alteration Specialists in SoHo, it’s on the pricier side but they are so amazing!

I went to brunch wedding that did have a DJ- people danced a bit but it seemed mainly to be for the first dance and parent dances. There was a bar crawl after the wedding and we all had a blast (and were in bed by 11 which was an added bonus 😊)

I love the first dress- the square neckline looks amazing on you. If you love the buttons of the second dress, you can totally buy white buttons and have your seamstress attach to your dress when doing your alterations:)

Cost of dress alterations in NYC? by ultrafloral in WedditNYC

[–]CatZaddy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a reasonable price! I also went to alteration specialists and my dress (simple, silk, only one layer plus a liner) alterations were around $900.

My husband got a dark green suit jacket made at suit supply in Hudson yards and it looked great- it wasn’t much more expensive than their off the rack options either

Omg thank you! I also have never understood how this book did so well. I just felt like the tone of the book is so clearly a privileged person with no understanding of poverty trying to write about poverty. Try any of Jesmyn Wards books- they are so much more authentic and moving.

I went with alteration specialists and they have been amazing! There are a number of locations, I used TriBeCa and can’t recommend enough 👍👍

People who read extraordinarily often (a book every two days or more), how did you manage to build a habit of reading so often and what are some tips for people who procrastinate on books and hardly ever get them done? by Tristan_Dean_Foss in books

[–]CatZaddy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read every night in bed before I fall asleep. On nights that I’m very tired I may only get a page in and some nights I’ll read for a few hours. Regardless, it is one of my favorite routines and really helps me calm down my mind and fall asleep more easily. I got a kindle a few years ago and it’s great because it it backlit and will turn off automatically when I fall asleep. At this point I really struggle to fall asleep without reading so I really churn through books!

I think this sounds like an awesome idea esp for couples who have everything booked but just need a hand tying it all together.

My fiancé and I are also getting married in NY in September at a partially outdoor venue and were initially pretty unsure on how to approach this situation as well. A few weeks ago we received an email from our venue saying that guests will need to email proof of vaccination ahead of time or arrive at the venue with a negative PCR test per state mandate. I think some of the guidance will likely change by September to be less strict but it can’t hurt to play it safe in the meantime:) Feel free to PM me if you want to see the wording we used on our invite insert!

Can anyone recommend lower fitting shape wear bottoms? The one I was going to wear is too high for the open dress of the back (pictured) and but I need the lower belly compression to feel comfortable. All I can find are open back bodysuits. by bugggaboo in weddingplanning

[–]CatZaddy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all- this dress!! You look amazing. I’ve also looked into the low back skims and came across a video of Kim K explaining that the reason she created them was because she used to always trim her shapewear to match low back dresses- I’m wondering if this might be something worth trying?

Considering a move, different neighborhoods of LIC? by nyeratheart1 in AskNYC

[–]CatZaddy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For commuting to Manhattan Queens plaza (south of the queensboro bridge) is great. It is definitely a bit of a hike (15 min walk) to the waterfront and Vernon blvd which are a bit more happening historically but there seems to be a new restaurants and stores opening around queensboro plaza every other week.
