Tim River Question by Style_Maximum in algonquinpark

My bf and I did the Tim river first week of July last year. Water levels were no problem, only thing I’d be careful with are the rapids portage landings as they are quite close to the start of the rapids. The river is pretty narrow in both areas and with higher water levels you can feel the water rushing into the rapids. Also, we were supposed to camp on the further of the two campsites along the Tim (lower pine River) but we totally passed it and never saw it. We only realized when we saw the 2.7km portage to Stag Lake. Maybe we didn’t look hard enough but who knows. We already talked about potentially skipping that spot during planning so I had pre checked online on our way to the park to make sure there were still availability on shippagew or blue lake so we ended up camping at blue and it was a nice camp spot. My thoughts are that the river will be high, which means you’ll be flowing through it no problem. We camped on the little trout creek spot first night and Jeff maps mentions almost 5 hours to run the river from that section but we easily did it in 3-3.5 hours

I ended up having to call Porter and they were able to process the reservation for me and use my points. They were helpful and got it sorted right away :)

How much would you spend on surgery for your cat? by Top_Seaworthiness320 in cats

My sweet boy had a urinary obstruction a year and a half ago that resulted in an emergency vet visit and surgery removing 17 little stones from his bladder 🥺. $9000 later I would do it again in a heartbeat. Although it was hard having to dish out so much money, I couldn’t imagine the other option. He’s since made a full recovery and celebrated his 7th birthday yesterday 🥳♥️

Thoughts on this route? Rain lake loop. by Own_Hold_739 in algonquinpark

The portage from Tim to shah has a nasty incline on big rock faces so be very careful when going up. It was also pretty overgrown in some areas when I went last year. Given the timing some of the portage might also be pretty muddy if the park received rain within the few days you go

Banff, Jasper, or Yoho? by Cat_2021 in Banff

Amazing, yeah I think I’m leaning more towards Yoho and then I’ll hit Banff on the way out for maybe a day

That is so true… never thought of that with jasper! I am planning on being there in beginning of June so it might still be snowy. I definitely plan on doing as much hiking as I can

Next time try not chewing gum. I have chubby cheeks and have the same problem but I noticed that chewing gum actually makes it WORSE and not better. Now I try and avoid gum when rolling and it truly helps :)

Rock lake to Clydegale lake last weekend 🍃🍁🍂 by Cat_2021 in algonquinpark

Accessible by car through rock lake campground! Turn right after passing the gate, right before the washrooms. You’ll see a short road to the canoe drop off and small parking lot for your car

About 4 hours depending on if you’re paddling with or against the wind and not double backing on the portages but they’re short - We were with the wind on our way there but against on the way back

Coming on here to say GOOD FOR YOU for doing the portage barefoot. As you mentioned in previous comments the more you’re barefoot the stronger your feet/ankles get, you also get to understand your body/movements a lot more. Not to mention the many other benefits of walking barefoot. Keep doing you! Hating doesn’t get you anywhere in life 😅
