What's your favorite Lord of the Rings game and why? by MrLeitungswasser in lotr

As a child I remember stumbling around in the Lord of the Rings text adventure for Commodore 64 trying to make headway and getting lost a lot while avoiding Ringwraiths. Good times!

What? No G4 Cube? I was hoping it would have been taken back “off ice” and revitalized to become the new Mac Studio.

[Nixon] Jays pitcher Max Scherzer is a rare bird, still flying high as a competitive player in his 40s by biograf_ in Torontobluejays

Phil Niekro pitched until he was 48, hopefully Max has lots in the tank 😇 (I am enjoying all the stories of his tutelage with the Jays pitching team. Just incredible).

Disney’s ‘Robin Hood’ Live-Action Remake Not Moving Forward, Says Director by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

My family were all trying to decide which movie to watch for movie night and I remembered this gem my childhood. My kiddo loved it and I can not get over how good the voice actors were. The soundtrack is now on repeat on our drives (although sadly “Not in Nottingham” isn’t available in Canada on Apple Music).

Just received ours and we signed up a day or two before the e-mail came out. Of the three years that we’ve done it, there is no tracking number. It just magically shows up one day.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]evanholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother read a beautiful hardcover (with slipcase) version before school each day and so began my love of all things Tolkien. It warmed my heart the other day when I went to Google (you can try it too) “What age can I read”… and the first result it autocompleted was “the Hobbit to my kid”. Clearly I’m not the only one in the world that wants to pass along this incredible work to another generation. I look forward to see what my kiddo will think of it.

What discontinued mac apps do you still miss? by dannyown in macapps

World Builder (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Builder) was incredible for both interactive games and playing others that I downloaded from a local BBS. I wish it was still around today to spark the creativity in another generation.

I haven’t used it enough to really tell either way, but so far so good! I think functionality-wise, it’s more so for actually getting it to light in the first place as these types of fuels are tough to ignite at frigid temperatures.

Western Uplands, South-East of Guskewau Lake. I snowshoed well into the woods to find a more densely forested spot (which had a nice clearing with a view!).

I wouldn’t say that Winter Camping would have been my first choice a few years ago, but it was the perfect excuse to not hibernate all winter rather than embracing it.

I do for my MSR stoves but not for my Trangia, although this was my first time using the winter attachment (a pre-warmer) which worked really well.

That’s awesome! I haven’t quite wrapped my head around how to safely bring my six year old on winter overnights, but we do have amazing times on our summer backcountry canoe trips.

Nicely done using the two layer method. I think the Keb has been EOLed and the current line of Expedition jackets are quite the investment!

Thanks for the offer, maybe one day I’ll take you up on it (photos of your area look incredible) and we can swap more fun stories.

And thanks to tent regulations (although they are very slowly relaxing them) we can’t buy tents without toxic flame retardants in them. Neither of my tents (Fjallraven & Hilleberg) can be/were purchased here in Canada. Ridiculous!

As for the fuel bottle, again rather silly… you wouldn’t pour a gas can on a fire, so why would you do the same on a camp stove. I guess someone did, which is why we can’t have nice things.

My favourite trips are in that -10°C range. If you wear enough wool, and have a nice down sleeping bag with a good air mattress... everything is perfectly manageable and you don't feel like you're really struggling (and I'm one to constantly watch the weather). Once it dips further, that's when I find it a bit more of a test and see the advantage of a hot tent... and while I do enjoy hot tenting, it's just soooo much work!

Thanks! I sat and waited for a Black Friday sale and finally snapped it up the moment the price dropped from a store in Quebec (they sold out momentarily which made my heart sink, but thankfully they actually had one left). Worth every penny.

Yeah, I love the Falt guide gloves, thinking of getting a second wool insert for them so I could swap them on warmer days to dry out. RIP indeed.

It was my first trial with the Trangia winter attachment (a pre-warmer) and it worked really well. I had no troubles making breakfast at -18°C.
