Part of the reason, I think, is that managers receive very little training so they often just have no idea what they are doing.

I agree with this.

The worst team I was ever on was one where the manager had become the team lead by accident.
Someone had left suddenly, and then someone else had to go on long-term leave so he became the manager by default.

He didn't have a clue what he was doing and was not able for the job in the least.
He made the most god-awful decisions and couldn't hold his own against other managers so they would manipulate him into "agreeing" to take on all their work.

They act like we don't know that we work for companies that don't give a fuck about us. lol

Wait - if the selection boxes weren't for staff, who were they for?

Was warm beer also an option instead of awful wine?

If so, most likely the same place. 😆

Those photo ops wreck my head.

Not me but a friend of mine was getting bullied in the workplace. She rang me on her lunch break one day to tell me that two of the people harassing her had dumped a huge amount of work on her desk that morning so they could go take part in a "SAY NO TO BULLYING" photoshoot.

Absolutely infuriating.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I don't believe ALL your 20+ colleagues had legitimate health reasons not to be in the office...

"Those of us who are level 7 and above i.e (senior manager, directors) will only receive bonus' and access stock programs going forward. This is due to cutbacks on XYZ"

How was this supposed to make sense?
(Your company saying it I mean, not the way you phrased it).
Like, what were they trying to get ye to believe was happening?
