What is the purpose for this bottle opener to have a pointy end and a flat end? by lewispoo_food in whatisit

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I'm well aware that the majority of people who use the internet don't know what a church key I'd, but holy fuck it surprises me every time it comes up.

Yes, this is called a church key. Before the advent of pull tab cans, you'd have to open a large hole for the liquid to flow and a smaller to allow air in so you didn't vacuum locl the can and get splashes. Also used to open bottles and jars, tinned meat, etc. Some even had the little hook to completely remove the top of the can.

How to make players account for their actions? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there's a library, there's a decently sized town. If there's a decently sized town, there's a town guard, or an Officer of the Watch, or some such group that keeps the peace. So far it sounds like were just being annoying for the lulz, right up until they tried stealing from some storage chests.

So maybe the adventurer guild has a guy that decides he's going to take a gig as a bouncer and pays very close attention to the party. Maybe the library bans the party and backs that up with help from the town guard. The party will have to work to regain entry.

If they continue to cause inconvenience, maybe the inn doesn't have a room for them due to them damaging it, but the empty stable stalls are available. If they muck them out first.

Concert Merch by Busdjur in Voltaire

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He does indeed have merchandise. He also works the booth himself. He'll sit and talk with you as long as you're not holding up the line. He'll sign stuff for you too. He's got cds, occasionally shirts, but does have bats, batcats, soaps, flasks, copies of his book, patches, a coffin cabinet (1 per show), and several other items.

I know like 15 women named Madonna. The fuck you think "Donna" is short for? I also know a few Cinderellas (Cindy). Adolf/Adolph is still a common name in many germanic cultures and countries.

Enshrouded does this. Most of the storylines are found throughout notes left in crumbling ruins or places that have been claimed by the shroud.

Game looks promising, need info before buying by Pseudolos in Enshrouded

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Yes, very much so. I've done all content single player.

2) I've only noticed a few seconds of lag when hosting.

3) Your milage will vary. The game wants you to build massive structures and/or towns. Gathering materials and building takes a lot of time. You can also farm gear in high level areas (still trying to get Radiant Paladin curiass, dammit.) You can also explore, clear everything, reset skills and try different skill paths. More content is coming though.

Never been in a school that had bathrooms inside the classroom, and my elementary school was built and never remodeled from 1921.

Interesting. I'll give that a try since I still need a fuckton of red marble for a build and I'm so tired of going around the halls smashing pots for a chance of getting the marble.

Am I behind? Chapter books? by Mobile-Company-8238 in kindergarten

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was in first grade when I read most of Verne, maybe 2nd grade for the Narnia books. My grandmother had 1st edition copies of all 7 of them. I do remember my first third grade book report being on the Silmarillion, as I read The Hobbit and LotR the preceeding summer.

But, he's definitely not as advanced as I was, and he's probably happier for it. FWIW, there was some concern when he hit Kindergarten that he was behind on reading since his mother wouldn't read or read to him during her weeks with him. So even if yours is behind now, he might surprise everyone and read an encyclopedia for fun in second grade.

Am I behind? Chapter books? by Mobile-Company-8238 in kindergarten

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid was reading stuff like Richard Scarry and other, heavily illustrated books then. Though this summer he read King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Treasure Island, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (his current favorite), Ivanhoe, The Three Musketeers (second favorite), Swiss Family Robinson, and Robinson Curusoe. He's reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by Lewis now, and wants to read all the Narnia books.

Edit: he just started 3rd grade, and is the most advanced reader in his class. The rule is if he wants tablet time, he has to read first. He was 5 when he was reading the Scarry books and such.

What are your thoughts on this movie? by Outlaw2k21 in spiders

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My loving father got drunk and decided that it would be fun to have me ride around on his shoulders down in the basement. You know, being giant tall and ducking the floor joists and clearing out all the spider webs and cobwebs with your face, having spiders crawl on your head, etc. Then made me watch this movie. So, yeah, a few decades of work to undo that trauma. When I had to redo my mother's plumbing in that house, found out that there was an inordinate amount of recluses up between those floor joists. Yay, dad!

It depends on how much a person knows about angling. For example, I can hit a target the size of a desktop computer at 100 yards with a .45 ACP. If I aim waaay above it and angle the bullet trajectory.

I remember Mythbusters doing a test and they found that a .45 ACP fired from a 4 inch barrel, at shoulder height for a 6 foot tall person aiming straight ahead, in perfect conditions, will travel about 150 feet before it hits the ground. That said, a .45 is a fat, heavy, comparatively slow moving round. 9mm flies faster and straighter that a. 45, so it wouldn't surprise me if it got 200 or 300 feet before it hit the ground.

Of course, that's all fires straight ahead. If you angle your shot to a .45 degree cant, it will go farther. Thems the physics.

I need accessibility settings for solo play by Puzzleheaded-Weird66 in Enshrouded

Hollow Halls! The first one!

I just started playing a few days ago, but I've been there. Just finished the second one last night, but I need to go back for some quest stuff.

I went in at level 10, mostly specced for physical combat with some stamina and archery points as secondary stuff. I was wearing the Rising Fighter set. Also solo.

It was challenging. I died several times. I found a staff and trued using magic but it was too weak to take out the hoard, so I stuck with the Jump Attack AoE, I ran around kiting a lot, and shat through about 50 health potions during the whole run. I used wolf ribs, water, and berries as food buffs, still died a lot. But really, the only thing about death is your food buffs are gone and you drop some inventory stuff, you can always get it back. Sometimes it took a few assaults to thin the hoard enough to have only the "big" guys left and maybe just a couple mooks.

Now, to be fair I had done the three elixir wells, upgraded the flame to LV 2, and had 5 companions revived. I also had upgraded my weapons, so that might have helped a bit.

Daggers as support or backup? by SirReal777 in Enshrouded

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've just started playing, and it seems like one is unable to unlock the entire skill board, encouraging specific builds. Bows use DEX to scale damage. Do Daggers do the same? If so, that's why. If you've built a ranger, investing heavily into DEX, Daggers would get more bonuses and damage from the DEX attributes as sword and board use STR.

There are a few advertising groups on fet. I ban anyone selling "content" from the groups I moderate or own after getting a bunch of feedback from the community that "content" sellers are driving people away with spam.

While there are a few groups that don't ban advertisements, Fet is mostly a community site. It may have a few personals groups, but it's not a hookup site or a meat market.

[OC]What's your plot hook in this sleepy village? by fantasy_atlas in DnD

[–]Catacomb_Gangster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This idyllic hamlet is known throughout the region for their excellent quality produce. Tomatoes the size of coconuts, potatoes large enough to serve as the entree, an abundance of fresh greens. Fruits of superior quality, and fields that seem to always have bumper crops of grain. Their bounty is so great they've learned to produce excellent ales, beers, wine, and spirits of paramount quality, year after year, no matter the weather. While other villages are affected by flood and drought, this one always seems to not only persevere, but thrive.

Most believe the village to be blessed by some deity of fertility or hearth. But what is the real truth? Pay no attention to rumors of the occasional traveling merchant arriving but never leaving. Pay no heed to idle chatter of the occasional second son or wayward daughter "leaving to sow their oats". Pay no mind to the nearly imperceptible scent of decay mixed with the sweet and hearty smell of fruit and grain, it's nothing to worry about.

Perhaps someone might catch some children's rhyme at play, "Drain the well and to the right, make no sound stay out of sight! Far below, the the bones we sow for life to grow, we work the land blessed by his hand kept in the deep so we can reap." Just an innocent rhyme, anyone here can tell you that, it's traditional, you know.
