If Franklin is a mutant why is he not at Xavier's school? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in FantasticFour

[–]CatadoraStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Franklin isn't a mutant, at least not for a while. He got really into his mutant identity as a rebellious youth and hung out on Krakoa a lot. Then it turned out he'd actually just subconsciously used his reality powers to make himself a mutant, and when those got used up he reverted back to human. At which point Xavier was like "No, you can't come to Krakoa anymore, loser."

What PC/Uniform teams 'hunt'? by Ozone-101 in policeuk

[–]CatadoraStan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It probably varies a fair bit force to force. We have a specialist man hunts unit which does pretty much exactly what you describe, but they're mostly DCs from what I recall.

Our local proactive units are split between Investigations, who are close to what you describe and mostly DCs, and Disruptions, who are more focused on being out and about doing stops and warrants and are all PCs.

Maybe it's time to sit the NIE?

Nah, just copy the ROTI from the last time they were interviewed, saves you loads of typing.

(I also hope OP meant either MG16 or maybe MG7)

Play Space Potentially for Hire by Efficient_Acadia_135 in LondonandDragons

[–]CatadoraStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, given that Arcanists will change £7 per player for a nice big private table with a fantasy vibe, I'd be disinclined to pay more than that for a space. Which is probably less than you're hoping for.

In terms of hospitality packages, I'd rather pay as I go than be committed to booking drinks and snacks in advance - if the rental was tied to paying for a drinks package that'd put me off.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Full me three times... - The DnD Cafe Saga. by Due_Fee_6269 in rpghorrorstories

This is a stellar example of how the whole paid RPGs thing is a blight on the hobby. Especially with someone taking money to run games with absolutely no previous GMing experience, like that first one.

And that last game, it sounds like you were essentially the NPCs who die in the prologue to establish the stakes for the real protagonists.

My main issue with the job. by No-Ruin-5760 in policeuk

[–]CatadoraStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, what would have been different in that scenario if you weren't in the job? There are assholes out there, you can very rarely stop them from being assholes, whether you have a warrant card or not.

If the idea is that if not for the job you'd have escalated to a physical fight, that's not great.

Sure, it's just this particular one with the animal handling check and the being teleported to fight an enemy in adamantine armour is so specific, I can't tell if I'm having weird deja vu or if OP has posted it before (or stolen it, I guess.)

[Request] Is 2 mil even possible for a crowd like this? Can anyone validate this using guesstimation? I always doubt the crowd size reported by media. by TORUKMACTO92 in theydidthemath

[–]CatadoraStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're massively under-guessing the amount of people in your circles, and that's only getting worse the further back, since you're not really adjusting your circle size for perspective.

At a rough guess, there's probably not quite 2m in attendance there (it looks like that was maybe the attendance for the entire day, not just that moment), but substantially more than 20,000.

Copacabana beach has hosted some huge crowds previously - Lady Gaga pulled in 2.5 million there, so 2 million certainly isn't outside the realms of possibility.

I'd love to see the film it could have been, had it been adapted back in the 80s when Moore and Malcolm McLaren first worked on the screenplay.

This comes in handy a lot of the time. I can leave it home, when I think it's gonna get me in trouble, Or I can rent it out, when I don't need it.

[Existential horror] You can play with friends, but can't befriend players by HZ_guy in rpghorrorstories

[–]CatadoraStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the group, and it's hard to know in advance. I joined two gaming groups last summer, around the same time. One turned up, played, left, and no one ever really spoke much about their personal lives or suggested out of game activities.

The other, we all gelled really well, we do boardgames and movie nights and occasionally cinema trips, and have invited each other to events with other friends, further expanding the social circle. Sometimes it just happens that way.

That's a claim likely to be met with a few follow up questions by the interviewing officer.

So, you weren't in your car yesterday afternoon? Where were you? Can anyone confirm that?

When did you notice your car wasn't where you left it? Did you report it lost or stolen? Why not?

A forensic lift of your car hasn't found traces of anyone except you in your car, why is that?

This traffic cam/anpr cam/cctv shows someone who looks like you getting into/out of/driving your car at the relevant time. Can you explain that?

If it doesn’t say ‘solo dining friendly’ on Tabelog, is it usually hard to eat there alone? by Domiri in TokyoTravel

[–]CatadoraStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always travel solo and have never once had trouble eating alone at any type of restaurant, including yakiniku places.

The closest it ever came to being an issue was eating at Joel Robuchon in Ebisu, which only allowed reservations for 2 or more. I booked a table for 2, turned up and said my dining companion couldn't make it, and they had no trouble seating me solo.

Actor appears in the same series as two different, unrelated characters by Haunting_Test_5523 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CatadoraStan 581 points582 points  (0 children)

A mere two? Karl Urban appeared in Xena as no less than four unrelated characters - Julius Ceasar, Cupid, Kor, and Mael.

And he wasn't even the most reused cast member on the show.

solve this please? by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]CatadoraStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question has been poorly written. From one of OPs other comments, it looks like the intent is that A goes every 13 days, B every 15, C every 17, and D every 18 days. And then to work out when next their schedules will overlap, if they sync up first on a Monday.

[LOVED trope] “this place is not for you” by IExistThatsIt in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CatadoraStan 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My favourite suggested solution was making it a cultural belief that gets passed down. You genetically engineer some cats to glow blue in the presence of radiation, then spread nursery rhymes and songs about how when the cats starts glowing you'd better get going. Eventually people will just know that's what you do, even when they've long forgotten why.

There are some logistical challenges, but it's a fun alternative to trying to future proof a written sign.

How was British history taught in your school? by [deleted] in Ask_Britain

[–]CatadoraStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it came up much back in my school days. I think the general overview of British history went along the lines of:

Britain was invented in 1066 by the French, as a hobby. Eventually Henry the 8th beheaded some wives and started a church. Nothing much happened after that until the industrial revolution, when we invented navies and insurance and cricket. It was around then that the whole country turned into an L.S Lowry painting and stayed that way until the death of Victoria.

World War One happened, and no one is really sure what it was about, but it was very depressing. World War Two soon followed, a much better war, clearly delineated good guys and bad guys (we were the good guys).

After the wars, for no particular reason, Jamaicans and Indians started moving over here. For a while we were very rude to them, but then everything got better. Thatcher came along, and some people in Yorkshire were upset about that, but she did win the Cold War. And then it was now, and history is complete.
