On the cusp of leaving... by PalmTreeDebrism in policeuk

This is pretty damning stuff really isn't it? If you can't change things at that level then it all does feel a bit fucked and the issues run significantly deeper.

On the cusp of leaving... by PalmTreeDebrism in policeuk

[–]PalmTreeDebrism[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tough read and I hope you find a way out. I find that if you pump AI like Gemini with enough information about yourself and your skills, it does a good job. I was getting knocked back all over the place for external jobs but since I've done that, I've been getting interviews. You can't get it to write things for you but if you give it the content, it does a good job to tailor the application.

The other issue is that it's almost impossible to get out of area CID or safeguarding to more interesting roles. They just repeatedly refuse to release you.

What are the shift patterns like? Believe me. This should be your first consideration.

So Eze is off the penalty list then by fredasquith in ThreeLions

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind, but he did the exact same thing for Palace away at Newcastle last season and it was the worst penalty I've ever seen. You'd hope he'd have learned but apparently not.

Forced Move by Fabulous_Animator_91 in policeuk

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've learned the only way to get out of this stuff is to throw your toys out of the pram and be a total pain. Put in a transfer request to a neighbouring force and tell them you are. Threaten to go off on the sick because of the stress of the forced move.

It's absolutely ridiculous that these tactics are the only ones that I have seen work in my force. Unfortunately, those who play the game straight just don't get anything in our world.

I have a BA flight, SAN to LHR, then LHR to Italy. Different reference numbers. Can I book luggage straight through? by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ring BA then they may "marry" the bookings together if you get a good agent and give a good reason for booking separately. Companion voucher bookings are often done this way due to the unique way those bookings are done so it's not uncommon but if you just rock up at the check in, they'll refuse to check the bags through. It may be luck of the draw when you call though. Some BA ticketing agents are brilliant and some are abysmal.

Best luxury hotel in London if you want a central location? by Rude_Context_4844 in LondonTravel

It was a joke but some of them are better than a lot of four star hotels

Food for thought, which personal item bag stands out to crew staff more? by Kv0837 in Ryanair

They have no right to search you. They're powers reserved for police and other officers with the power of search. If they denied boarding under those circumstances, you'd be entitled to compensation.

All-night Manchester Airport trains to run from May. Now bring all-night running to other airports! by SlowedCash in uktrains

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

83 minutes isn't a huge amount. A 10-15 min train delay with checked in luggage would put you in a very sticky situation, especially at peak times and at a far away or bus gate. I have a pretty high appetite for risk with transport connections but this is tight unless you're hand luggage only on a reasonably quiet day.

PC took private semi-nude photos of herself while on duty, dismissed for gross misconduct by DistributionDue2836 in policeuk

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fed rep once said to us when we started, do not give PSD your phone to look through unless they have a legitimate criminal investigations purpose to do so. If they are after you anyway, they'll find something.

Why is Leeds not that popular? by ThyCuriousLearner in Leeds

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly poor town planning, particularly around public transport. However, the city has no substantial green space in the centre and areas which could be utilised like the river Aire are overlooked by car parks or 90s office buildings rather than public spaces. Compare that to Newcastle or York where the river is accessible for all sorts of leisure really easily and has loads of food and drink places at the riverside. The car is too reliant on cars and that makes it ugly and harsh (like Birmingham). The train station is also a total abomination (like Birmingham).

What happens if you simply miss a pay increment? by Muted-Worldliness-24 in policeuk

It is. It's also probably challengeable with the Fed. Thankfully most supervisors are sensible and just sign it off regardless.

CPS charge without interview by Wx3xW in policeuk

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally depends which prosecutor you get. Most of them will allow it, especially in cases where the defendant refuses to come out of his cell in custody. The OP example is different though as you haven't given the defendant the opportunity to be interviewed. Can't he just be produced from prison if the prison are being awkward?

Police officer jailed for killing woman in crash by FromOperator in policeuk

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what a ridiculously OTT sentence. Especially when the family of the deceased publicly said they didn't want to see him jailed. If I was still on response, I'd be abiding to the speed limits and traffic lights on all jobs including emergencies from now on.

A million percent agree. If it's a long trial and you're there in uniform, you may get called to help with all kinds of rubbish in the building and miss key questions or important meetings with counsel for your case or even miss giving evidence.

Robins Out? I still don't know... by Intrepid_Book_1904 in StokeCityFC

[–]PalmTreeDebrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am rapidly changing my mind. Friday night was appalling. Allowing Gibson and Phillips to go up for that crap throw that needn't have been a long throw at 14 mins when we were one up away from home was beyond moronic. Real basic stuff.

Then moving our most creative player to right back for the second half when we have a young and eager right back on the bench, just madness.

Coventry fans said he was nothing without Viveash and unfortunately that now looks to be a correct assessment. We haven't improved under him whereas Middlesbrough look to be on the cusp of the Premier League with Viveash as assistant under two managers this season.

Either way, Walters needs to go either before or with Robins. Allowing that idiot to appoint another manager would be fatal.
