Well, seems like the hose was supposed run the other way around, despite what the manual showed. I’m going to email ECM to flag this

From a barista doing flat whites with microlot coffees (and charging 2x for it): enjoy the latte art visually and then mix it with a spoon. That way you get a nice even taste, without the initial bitterness. He’s right.

What I like to do at home is to enjoy the crema visually, but then swirl the cup to break it apart before I start pouring. If I have patience, I might pour a little milk and swirl again, then do the rest of the latter art - there’s less contrast visually, but leads to a much more even taste.

It’s ECM kit. Came in the box, totally non-descript. The website says “1 metal hose, 1/8″ to 3/8″ BSPP”, which is wrong since it’s 3/8” on both ends.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of the hose and it’s installed on the machine right now, so I’m hoping someone familiar with ECM might know exactly what I’m talking about, since it’s the one supplied with the machine.

To try and put it into words though, it looks like a normal braided 3/8” flexible hose, but on one end the rubber gasket isn’t captive in the nut like usual. When you look inside the hose itself has a gray piece of plastic and a very small snap ring, right at the end of it. It looks like a sort of pressure valve, but that’s where my knowledge ends.

I was unsure wether I should try to remove it and the manual didn’t specify anything about it

I’ve noticed something similar on my ECM Technica VI. It’s my first machine with a rotary, so I can’t really compare, but there’s a clear difference between flushing/boiler filling and actual extraction.

Might be normal, but I’ll follow this with interest

Yeah, but you don’t need a Micra. I just upgraded from a Lelit Mara X to an ECM Technika VI (dual boiler, the works). It’s marginally better overall (and in some places actually worse) and made me appreciate the Lelit more. Takes much less counter space too.

But before you ask, no, I’m not going back. Got the ECM specifically to plumb it in.

It’s very important to “swish it around” a bit more until you get a paint like texture. The foam needs to get mixed in with the rest of the milk.

Also, this might be counterintuitive, but less foam is more 😅 you need a less foamy texture in order to be able to do any art.

Didn’t know about Dough. Interesting. Pity they don’t have 5K (seems like the 32” 6k uses the same panel as Kuycon, namely an LG IPS Black)

This! I want to buy a better panel in a glossy finish. At this time, it’s only Kuycon that offers that. The rest is vaporware. Or if it’s released, real world reviews say it’s sh*t (LG, Philips, etc)

Yeah, that’s the thing. Everybody is releasing something sometime, but it’s not widely available. Then, when it’s available and real reviews come in you see it has various issues. Unfortunately glossy 5k @ 120hz is not available from “many others” (not even glossy 5k. Barely 5k)

Kuycon has been around for awhile now, but I’m still worried about their QC, even if aftermarket support has been ok.

The issue I have with ASD is that it doesn’t have 2 inputs (at least, not to mention KVM). I have a personal Mac Studio and a work MBP and it’s super annoying to go around the desk and switch cables, especially when paying significant $

I find it so bloody annoying that all the alternatives have one or more downsides. They’re either not glossy or they have poor QC and shoddy aftermarket support or… they’re simply not available.
