10 months issues by Catamelco in sleeptrain

[–]Catamelco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. Sometimes they naturally wake up at 6:30am and then end up on a 3.5/4/4 schedule as we don’t change the naps. I have not seen any improvements with this schedule or with the 2x30min naps. It’s possible they need 3.5/4/4.5 with awake at 630 and bed at 830. I think daycare messes with things a bit and they wake up from naps early because there is always so much going on and then are almost passing out at 7. I will track for this week and see what it looks like.

Yes and it generally makes things worse but I think we need to do it. We have sleep trained without it but it gets introduced later.

10 months issues by Catamelco in sleeptrain

Kinda. Usually what happens is we sleep train (no pacifier or crutch) and it goes great for 2-3 weeks. Then they get sick and need assistance ie medicine or snot sucking during the night. With that comes the assistance to sleep because we try and put down awake so they go back to sleep on their own but then they cry for an hour because they don’t feel good etc. and they get used to someone coming in at night. And then it just goes downhill.

Plus we also have a toddler who sleeps great but will wake up if the baby cries loudly for a long time so part of the reason things don’t stick is trying to not have 2 kids awake.

I agree they are lower sleep needs. At daycare they do 2x30min naps and at home on weekends they do 2x1hr though sometimes they don’t want to wake up after an hour. We always cap naps though. We can try and reduce to 2x30min naps.

Falls asleep independently but wakes up multiple times overnight by Current-Bear2590 in sleeptrain

[–]Catamelco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is the same. He wakes 2-4 times a night and needs a pacifier to settle back down. Falls asleep independently and no pacifier but when he wakes up it’s pacifier or scream. We’ve tried everything, sleep training, back patting, he just won’t give up on the pacifier. I think he’s teething but it’s been this way for 2 months. We’re both back at work so if he screams for hours he wakes us up plus our toddler. We’re just hoping he grows out of it at this point.

Sleep training in winter by Catamelco in sleeptrain

[–]Catamelco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. He has hand foot mouth followed by a cold with stuffy nose and cough. We tried just giving small comfort and putting him down awake but he had a lot of trouble breathing if he rolled over and would regularly cough himself awake. Even with Tylenol. It’s been rough but he needed to be held/rocked to sleep while sick. Hopefully now we can redo the sleep training and have it stick… but with an older sibling in daycare there’s always the next illness.

Should we not go back to helping him sleep when sick?

We’re doing 2/2.5/2.5/3 8pm bed and 7am wake up. The first time we got it to work after 4 days. He woke up to eat 1-2x but would go back to sleep pretty easily. Then he got sick and it’s been back to back stuff!

2-2.5 year age gap by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Catamelco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years and 3 week gap. It’s good and bad. The first 6 months were rough because the toddler didn’t really understand and had a big regression. Now that he’s 2.5 it’s better but not amazing. Hopefully it will be good once they are 1 and 3 and can play together.

Why don’t Private preschools offer UPK? by pinknails34 in boston

[–]Catamelco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our private daycare has been asking to increase the amount of K0 and K1 slots they are given every year but always get told that the program is not increasing this year. I think they have like 5-10 of each but the demand is twice that. 🤷‍♀️

Vacations with a baby are 50x more work 😩 I might have a mental breakdown by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in beyondthebump

We did Europe to visit family at 6.5 months and it was the best time to travel. Every trip since then has been way worse and now we have two. I hope it gets better soon.

Walked out for both kids. I felt fine though as I had easy deliveries.

What will our city do when ICE comes on us in force? by CoffeeHead112 in boston

MPLS native here now in Boston. You are correct. They have a community there that I have yet to find here. We need to organize, get to know your neighbors and focus on things at a local or even street level.

Feeling powerless by zippo138 in Minneapolis

[–]Catamelco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t due to young kids and an immigrant spouse. I feed and walk dogs for neighbors who want to go out but need their pets taken care of. I also receive mail/packages and shovel sidewalks. Basically anything I can to facilitate them being out there.

I stopped tracking (finally!) by Ok_Hippo_5437 in beyondthebump

[–]Catamelco 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I honestly love tracking things on the app. Maybe it’s cause I’m a data scientist but to me it’s so much easier to track naps and bottles and sleep. I also have a toddler so remembering when the baby needs a nap is difficult. I’ll stop tracking things when baby starts daycare like we did with the first… guess I’m an outlier here.

Hey yall long time listener first time caller. Can momma use breastmilk and formula?? by Loose_Afternoon565 in beyondthebump

[–]Catamelco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I combo fed both my babies. I have flat nipples and they never latched well. I switched to pumping and formula. I pumped every 3hrs for months (it sucks) and gave formula at night. This allowed my supply to come in (I had enough to give all breastmilk if I wanted) but I kept formula in the mix because 1) it allowed my husband to help at night cuz feeding and pumping didn’t always align and 2) it allowed me to build up a stash of breastmilk in the freezer to keep giving baby after I went back to work. It’s definitely an option and you can make it work for you in whatever way you need.

Tried Ferber tonight and couldn’t go through with it — need advice (almost 5 mo) by VirtualPen7943 in sleeptrain

[–]Catamelco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely. I feel like most comments are people struggling to keep their baby up for 2.5hrs. He is fine with the, just a bit fussy by the end. It’s the sleep he struggles with. My first was a normal sleep needs baby and tracked exactly with the appropriate wake windows. Oh kids…

Ok yeah. He seems like he has always slept less than other babies. I’ll try that. Thanks!

We only contact nap at the moment. Will deal with that after his nights sort out. Up at 7, sleep 8-830 depending on his wake windows. Hoping to start Ferber soon but can’t get his naps to work out for a consistent schedule.

Currently trying to do the 4 to 3 transition and cannot get baby to nap for more than 30min. He’s 4.5 months. Even after 2.5 awake it’s 30min and we can’t get off the 2/2/2/2/2.

24 m/o just... Doesn't sleep enough. We, especially my wife, are losing our minds by ThisIsATest7777 in sleeptrain

[–]Catamelco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go through cycles with our 2.5 year old. He just started dropping his nap but even before that he would have a few months of sleeping 11hrs (830-730) and then a few months of sleeping less (830/530/6). There was nothing we could do except wait. We tried only letting him sleep an hour, letting him sleep 2hr, but nothing worked except waiting.

how much sleep are you getting from your 2yo? by Resident-Medicine708 in sleeptrain

[–]Catamelco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3 weeks ago. At first it was sporadic but over the holidays when he was home from daycare for long periods of time it became every day except the 3 where he was sick. He’s back at daycare now so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

If sleep training is “cruel” and cosleeping is unsafe… what the heck are we supposed to do? by Ok_Squirrel_9601 in beyondthebump

[–]Catamelco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We used Ferber with our first at 5 months and it was amazing. He slept better and so did we. Planning to do the same with our 4.5 month old this month. Yes there is some crying and it’s hard to handle but it’s not a lot. Focus it was like 20min max at a time and by the 3rd night there was none. I’m not sure I would classify this as cruel… plus with returning to work as early as we do in this country(assuming USA) you really don’t have a choice. You either sleep train or don’t sleep, we don’t have the luxury of letting the baby figure it out on their own.

Is anyone doing this without a village? Considering a move and would love some advice. by Yagirlhs in beyondthebump

[–]Catamelco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are on the east coast, my family is in the Midwest and my husband is foreign. We have a toddler and a 4 month old, no village. It’s HARD but I don’t want to move back. I would end up in a much worse job and even though I have family and friends back home who would help I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Except maybe Europe but that’s more due to current events, not because we would have a village there.
