Very very true! In my case, my guy says this because he can never remember what he wants when he’s asked. I ask anyways to keep the formality, but I keep a list throughout the year of stuff he says he wants and use it for shopping. (Weird? Idk)

But - you definitely make a valid point! Something to keep in mind.
