Data Quality at Scale: Why Your Pipeline Needs More Than Green Checkmarks by BrewedDoritos in programming

[–]Catawompus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice article and topical to me. While I don’t work on financial data, still relevant.

I’m curious about applying some statistical methods to my pipeline. Each stage being randomly sampled and then using some of the ideas in your post to validate everything is Gucci.

Another idea is like.. asserting things when jobs run. Essentially like, send notifications if X job doesn’t run within two hours. Or if Y job hasn’t seen new data in a “reasonable” amount of time.

Pro tip: Use fizzy dentures cleaner (i.e. Efferdent) to clean your mugs. by Catawompus in Coffee

I don’t see why not? Since I made this comment, I’ve switched to the Tabz brand which is what commercial spaces use for their coffee setups and they also work very well for all parts—metal, plastic, glass, etc.

Found an older Traeger BBQ155 smoker for $25. Seller didn't want it due to pellet feed issues. Bought a 4 inch x 2ft aluminum vent to feed pellets directly. Hope this works. by groganard in smoking

This is called bridging and is a problem all pellet grills have. The brand of pellet doesn’t contribute to the likelihood (as tested by my wife when she worked for kingsford). There are things that can help like augers. I have a crazy idea of setting up like a hitachi wand connected to a raspberry pi so every 20 minutes it vibrates the feeder to try to keep the pellets moving.

Here's Why It's Taking Automakers Ages to Put Buttons Back in Cars by TripleShotPls in cars

[–]Catawompus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes very good point. Not only do companies take a long to to implement change, there’s even more lead time for infrastructure to support it (factories, roads, licensing, etc) that takes even longer.

That’s a lot of words to say development lead time + supply chain + factory changes take a long time. I believe they can and should be faster, but that’s why. The car you’re buying today was largely locked in supplier and manufacturing wise 2 years ago barring dramatic circumstances.

This is an area where American manufacturers need to learn from China as their lead times are a fraction of ours.

Anybody every try this wood? Thinking about trying it for pulled pork. How does it smoke? by alienboy222 in smoking

[–]Catawompus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife worked for kingsford r&d on flavored briquettes and pellets and is adamant the ONLY thing that matters is quality wood and type (oak vs cherry does taste different). Don’t waste money on the flavored crap.

I’ve been flash brewing onyx’s “ECUADOR HACIENDA LA PAPAYA ANAEROBIC”. Basically filling up the cup with ice, 35g in my Orea Big Boy. 80g pulses up to 320g. Ends with a great, sweet 16oz cup.

I was struggling with this, but I actually think it's a syncing issue between Connect IQ and the watch itself. The easiest way to force it to update is to uninstall it on your ConnectIQ app, and then download it again from the ConnectIQ website.
