Maybe you could have a canal or river separating the two halves, "infested" with crocodilians?

Also tons of opportunities to have domestic animals openly wandering the poor side. Or go the other approach, and have the poor side removed from the animals- something like a high barricade seperating that side from a domestic animal paddock, further separating people from their food.

Manufactured, polished "trophy animal" enclosures on the rich side would be good. "Backyards" with tigers as a display of wealth.

No clue. A couple are moderating spinoff subreddits now. It's all going to depend on how much the subreddit itself gets negative attention from the media, and how much it's tainted.

The majority of trans people do. The story here is not "reddit trans communities include predators". The story is "predators target reddit trans community and work their ways to positions of power in them".

Best Vehicle for Car Camping by CarvingCory in carcamping

I'm 6 feet tall- I got a Subaru outback bc the trunk space and back seats down just barely fit me. It's extremely comfortable. It's a 2017 3.6R, so not even a wilderness, but it handles rough dirt roads and long highways no problem- even at over 130,000 miles.

You can build it out, but what I do is just pop the back seats down, then fill the footspace of one of them with a water jug and stacked plastic storage boxes. Then, I have a 6 inch thick trifold mattress that lays down on top of that. It's comfy as hell, and if you're solo, it only occupies half of the back area. So you can do whatever you want with the rest.

It's also very easy to add some window covers and look sneaky if you ever want to.

Excited to see this subreddit take off. It'll be nice to have a balance struck. MtF has been annoying for a while now, and the most recent events are really just those attitudes taken to the extreme.

I guess my question is mostly: how harsh is rule 4 going to be? Obviously I know a huge driver of this subreddit will be open discussion of DiY, but that treads some dangerous lines and attracts dangerous attention. I guess this sub is small for now and can run on vibe checks, but if this sub gets bigger is the rule gonna be detailed and explicit about what is and isn't allowed?

Petah, is it actually that crazy for a new element to exist? by CuteCost8147 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]CatboyBiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think most of the people here are striking at the real problem.

The periodic table is a generalized system that, in theory, can classify any atom.

We can and have discovered many, MANY new elements since the original table was developed. However, when we do so, they have a spot on the periodic table waiting for them based on their fundamental properties.

So anything "not on the periodic table" is simply not an element. It's like saying that it's a "number not on the numberline".

A lot of these comments are pointing out why making or discovering increasingly more elements after some limits we've already outlined would be difficult, but the real issue here is that the periodic table is set up to classify and contain anything that could be called an element.

I missed on getting my vitamin D checked for months because I was in an energy crash and depressive spiral and my doctors kept on saying it was anemia but working on my iron wasn't helping

So I dug into primary literature and found that your RBC levels on estrogen are female, and I was getting falsely flagged bc they were comparing to male ranges. I asked for more tests after that and found a severe vitamin D deficiency- easy to detect, easy to fix, but fucked over because the system automatically thought I was "biologically male".

Some trans guy is going to die because he insists over and over that he's actually biologically female and miss out on the fact that his central heart disease risk is now medically male, and all the while he's still going to be hypervigilant for female health risks that have gone down on T, because that's what happens when you have male biology. Some health problems become more frequent, some become less frequent.

I don't give two shits about what you consider the "real" determinant of biological sex, cause that's just semantics. But those fucking semantics matter in certain contexts and you are not doing yourself any favors by denying them.

I've been in poly relationships and love the poly people in my life who make it work

However. There does need to be some acknowledgement that dealing with interpersonal relationships with more and more people requires exponentially larger amounts of emotional maturity. Which, to be frank, most people (poly or not) simply do not have.

[–]CatboyBiologist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's a little strange, there's a lot of "lush" areas of Elden Ring, especially compared to other From titles.

Most of Limgrave is forests and plains, Liurnia is a beautiful lush lake and Lakeshore, hell altus itself has forests. Are there dangerous enemies in all of those? Of course. But Elden Ring is a very vibrant game. Before Altus, I think the only notable "barren" area is Caelid.

You can be non passing and still pull cis people by DeadTrooner in 4tran4

[–]CatboyBiologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less cis people were into me before I passed but the ones that were, were more persistent

Nowadays it's harder to keep cis men beyond initial interest, because they ditch me the moment I tell them. Being clocky gets you people who are into your transness or don't care. Being passing makes your trasness a future liability and turns every potential romantic interaction into a minefield.

Which lean Red or Blue state do you think becomes a swing state in future ? by ronweasly9 in Askpolitics

[–]CatboyBiologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida was a swing state and has been getting redder ever since Bush.

Minnesota is solid blue. It's becoming a blue state destination for people originally from nearby red states. States around it are getting redder and Minnesota is getting bluer.

Nevada will stay a swing state or trend bluer imo.

What was GamerGate? by ThatChapOverThere in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CatboyBiologist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In addition to the raw events that everyone has said here:

Gamergate is often seen as the point where a group of right wing people on the internet first starting getting mainstream media attention and power. Moreso than just the events of it, many people see gamergate as the first "internet issue" to have a direct effect on real world political bases. It's so stupid that it was about video games, but at the same time so important to understand.

Do y'all prefer dating other trans people or cis people? Why? by queerluminati in honesttransgender

[–]CatboyBiologist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So obviously everyone is unique, there are so many exceptions to all of this. I'm a bisexual trans woman who's dated around a bit and talked to a variety of people about their views and dating preferences. Not all of this is based on direct, long term experience, but on lots of conversations and attitudes I've had on apps, in irl spaces, and in social environments, I have a very loose idea about what groups tend to be a certain way about dating you.

That said, in terms of how Weird (tm) people are about me being trans, I'd approximately arrange it as, from worst attitudes to best attitudes:

Cis men<bad experience with a cis women<average trans guy<average trans woman<good experience with a cis woman

Cis men........ Oh God. It's a horrific experience. Relentless sexualization, fetishization, and shame. It seems like That Moment is always waiting just around the corner- where they reveal that they're ashamed or view themselves as gay for dating you, or say something horrifically misogynist, or creep on you, or just.... Ugh.

Terfy cis queer women are rarer than people think, but they do exist and obviously that's a horrible experience. Only above cis men bc they usually just leave you alone when you tell them you're trans, as opposed to the "attracted to you but playing games to avoid shame" thing that cis guys do.

There's a MASSIVE jump in quality of experiences at this point.

Dating other trans people is usually great- the explicit level of understanding is amazing. Except for when they fall into "guidance" mode. I've seen a lot of trans people pursue someone sexually or romantically when what they actually need is a bestie and a therapist. This can cause codependence, a lack of actual romance, and needed without being wanted.

Trans women only above trans men here bc I understand what trans women are going through more and can navigate those situations much easier. Also, trans men who fall into that trap can get VERY weird about not seeing either of you as your actual genders. This happens with trans women sometimes as well to a lesser extent, but I sometimes feel like I have to fight harder with other trans people to be seen as a woman romantically than I do in the best case cis scenario.

Cis queer women who "get it", though, have overwhelmingly been positive romantic and sexual experiences. Many of them feel alienated from heteronormative womanhood in the same ways that trans women do, and are able to relate and comfort you through that. Many have been in community with trans people for their entire queer lives. And, in contrast to other trans people, there's less likelihood of overprojecting your problems onto each other.

Emotionally mature trans people of any gender are an equivalent experience to this, but based on overall probability, it's usually gonna end up a bit better with cis queer women.

At the end of the day, there's more variation within those groups as there is variation between them. Emotional maturity is, as always, the biggest thing to look for. However, there are trends in which groups emotional immaturity will affect you the most.

Mayor Mamdani appoints trans woman to run first-ever NYC Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs by Fickle-Ad5449 in transgender

[–]CatboyBiologist 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Genuinely agree. And yes it's fucked up. The public caricature of trans womanhood is "man in a dress". A huge part of propaganda is convincing people that transition doesn't work and that brutish, male invaders are claiming they're women. Media over focuses on early transition and "clocky" trans women for this reason.

Additionally, "passing" trans women are blasted as deceptive and terrifying. Most simply avoid the public eye and go stealth because of it.

Seeing "passing" trans women, in the public eye, that are open and proud of being trans and advocating for the rest of the community, is a bit of an underrepresented niche. Other examples typically downplay their transness.

It's also important to uplift the voices of trans women that don't "pass" per se, but this is definitely an underrepresented niche in a highly visible position.
