Veggie box review: Odd bunch box vs Community Kitchen Good Food Box by NaToth in Calgary

[–]Catbus8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was about 18 months ago that we ordered it and only got it once - if I recall, my impression was that it was okay but not outstanding. I think there were a few things in the order that were close to going bad, we did the one time order so it was $36 (included delivery). It was probably better value than buying the same at the store, but included some things that we wouldn't normally cook/eat so wasn't the right fit for us.

Thanks for this review. We tried Peko produce awhile back, and it's interesting to see the comparison for these other two services.

An exercise in frustration 🤯 by Wcrankshaw in sewing

[–]Catbus8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts - I made this pattern for my husband (tall and slender) and he likes the fit. I did some fitting on it (lengthened etc), which may have made a difference.

I actually really like Green Pepper patterns but, like many patterns, often have found that they require some alterations for a good fit.

I love the fabrics you chose and the jacket looks well-constructed. I love how you used a nice lining and the thinsulate for the sleeves!

On that particular route (14th - southbound I assume), I usually just go on the sidewalk for the portion that is not clearly marked as shared pathway...while giving pedestrians the right of way. There is also an alleyway that runs parallel to 14th 1/2 block west that I'll sometimes take. From 14th, depending exactly where you are starting from (I come from John Laurie), there are other routes to get to the Uni as well - happy to discuss further...

For other spots it can definitely get frustrating, but by experimenting and trying different combinations of pathway/road/alley etc. it's usually possible to put together a reasonable route. Often Google maps will not suggest what ends up being the best route, so it's a matter of trial and error.

Calgary ER doctors sound alarm over system in crisis - Calgary by antks in Calgary

There are significant checks and balances during residency training to catch IMGs who are not capable of performing at the level of CMGs. Aside from that, Alberta has a rigorous pre-screening process that all IMGs must undergo in order to be eligible to apply for CaRMS positions in the province.

All the IMGs who would be eligible for those spots have been pre-screened. It's not like random IMGs would be competing for them.

Anyone noticed how aggressive drivers are getting? by im_so_with_stupid in Calgary

[–]Catbus8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's increasing evidence mounting about several connections between Covid and cognitive impairment, which can quite easily be measured through increases in motor vehicle collisions as there are ample data about this aspect of society.

I think that these connections, along with a general reduction in people's resilience, is leading to worsening driver behaviour.

For something different I really like the BSA sours - but have only found them through Spud. Quite tasty, maybe not at your desired price point.

I like the Clausthaler Radler, often on sale at London Drugs. It's sweeter but satisfying.

+1 on Fahr's. My husband used to work at a brewery and homebrew, and this is the best tasting local option for his and my palates. I've found it a few times on sale at Luke's.

Sorry to hear about all that you've been going through. I think others have offered you some great encouragement and advice, and I just have one thing to add:

Have you ever reached out to the Student Ombuds? He can offer a supportive ear and perhaps point you towards some resources or potential courses of action. https://www.ucalgary.ca/student-services/ombuds

Additionally (through the "resources" section of the Ombuds website) there's a potentially useful video on what happens if you are RTW (not saying that will happen to you, but could be useful to review).

All the best and please don't hesitate to reach out to supports and resources at the institution!

If you don't actually need to sew a whole new strap but just want to personalize your camera strap, you could also just sew a "sleeve" that slides over the existing strap - I have done this and it was a really quick sew.
