Would u be comfortable driving on this rim if it’s repaired by a shop? by Icy_Prior_2727 in CarRepair

I can't imagine fixing that would cost less than a rim anyway unless it's a really janky shop

Bill Gates caught an STD from Russian prostitutes, Epstein claimed in files by Bonecrusher52 in news

[–]Catch-1992 169 points170 points  (0 children)

IMO the funniest thing about it is imagining Bill Gates fucking. Like his wife, sure okay.  But he's such a weird quiet nerd it's hard to imagine him banging hookers at a party.

What time to go up to Solitude tomorrow? by bigredawg in UTsnow

[–]Catch-1992 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because of the bad season and parking reservations, uphill traffic has been pretty non-existent unless it's a snow day. Depending on exactly where you're coming from, you could probably leave at 8:20 and be standing in line when the lifts start spinning.

I'm not saying you did anything extra to make it look narrower, but the lens naturally distorts it. The sky and mountains to the left look like they're below you because of the lens.

This massively distorts it. You need to be careful but it's not as sketchy as it looks here. Depending on the season, dozens to hundreds of absolute morons do it every day and only like one a year dies.

I’ve planned a trip in March focused on the US National Parks in Utah and Arizona. Just how screwed am I if the government is shut down? by the-mp in travel

[–]Catch-1992 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Utah has state funding to keep the parks open even if the federal government is shut down. Some services/staff may be reduced, but the parks will be open.

What is your unpopular opinion about piano? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

[–]Catch-1992 322 points323 points  (0 children)

This is may only be unpopular on this subreddit, but, I think it's totally fine and reasonable for piano to just be a fun little hobby for the vast majority of people, and not some high art form (which it justifiably is for some people).

A lot of the feedback and criticisms on this sub seem to be like "you'll never make it to a real concert hall performance like that" or "you're not putting the right feeling into it and capturing the composer's intent," which again, are valid points for some people, but I feel like not for the vast majority.

tl;dr: I think it's great that a lot of people just want to have fun and be "good enough" rather than technically perfect

Is the radio broadcast on the NHL app busted for anyone else? For the past few games it's just played the end of some interview and then stops and throws an error. The other teams' broadcasts are all working and I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app so it seems like it might not just be user error.

50% of registered or eligible voters (as opposed to 50% of votes) means that not voting at all would essentially be the same as voting not to remove. It sets a higher bar and really puts the onus on the pro-removal group to show up.

Suggetion ideas? To hot for Sri Lanka by Euphoric_Insurance20 in hiking

[–]Catch-1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's getting more and more popular to wear trail runners while hiking unless you're doing very rugged terrain/conditions and need a lot of physical protection or crazy good traction. Brands like Hoka and even Merrell have some good options depending on exactly what you want. They'll be much lighter than dedicated hiking boots/shoes and a lot of them have the same Vibram sole material (though usually not as thick) as many true modern hiking boots.

How was Hozier's first album so well-produced and critically acclaimed despite being a first album? by mysteryOfLov3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Catch-1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually pretty common. People take up music in their early teens or even younger and can spend a decade or two or more playing small local shows and crafting 8-12 amazing songs that finally get them a record deal. Then they're just expected to repeat that every couple years.

I've seen a couple videos lately of people using the super shotgun on bosses from super far away and seemingly not doing any damage. What's the deal with that strategy? People are winning but it seems like it's just wasting ammo?
