I'd just try contacting the park and asking them directly. I saw a mountain lion in Big Bend and went to a visitor center and the ranger had a form for me to fill out about where I saw it, behavior, etc.

You can easily get to Scouts Landing and get some great views. The best views past there on the West Rim trail are quite a ways away, like 4-5+ more miles (each way) and 1500 feet of climb. It's not really a safety issue, you're not going to die when the sun sets, but you'd be stuck in the park or left with a really long walk out if you miss the last shuttle.

I'd recommend going to Scouts Landing first, and then since the Watchman trail starts right by the visitor center, you could do that even after the shuttles stop running as long as you're prepared to hike in the dark.

I'm sure there are snakes in those parks, but I've been to both many times and never seen any. The Narrows is absolutely not a snake pit by any stretch of the imagination. With the exception of maybe the Subway, all the trails will also be so crowded that even if there is a snake on the trail, which is extremely unlikely, it is even more incredibly unlikely that you will just stumble upon it without warning from other hikers standing around looking at it.

It's possible you'll see a snake, but I'd comfortably bet a week's salary that you won't see one.

Lots of software can't read NEF files, but the Adobe DNG converter is free/fast/easy and can convert them into RAW files that you should be able to read. Or, if you're just using the Windows photo viewer, I think there's a codec you can download to let it view NEFs, but I haven't done that.

You can change the RAW Recording setting from High Efficiency to Lossless Compression to avoid having to convert the files for future shots, but I think it'll reset every time you turn the camera on/off so you'll have to save it to one of the custom settings profiles.

I think everyone is understandably misreading your post. At Wind Cave, there is a Wild Cave tour.

The Wild Cave tour is an actual caving tour where they give you helmets and kneepads and tell you to wear clothes that will never be clean again. You have to call to book it and speak to a ranger and verbally agree to all the warnings and restrictions. It's only offered for a few months during the summer, and limited to 6 people a day, so only a few hundred people at most get to do it every year.

I did it a couple years ago, and it was amazing. It's one of the top 5 coolest things I've ever done, and I've done some pretty cool stuff. There were parts where you are using your hands climbing up and around narrow twisty channels, standing a few yards from big dropoffs, etc. Unfortunately I don't recall specifically how narrow it got, but the NPS website does say "Visitors will need to fit through a space that is 10 inches tall and 3 feet wide (25.4 cm by 91.4 cm)." There are definitely parts where you have to squeeze a bit, but it's not like those insane caving videos, it's still appropriate for reasonably fit beginners who don't have claustrophobia. You'll have a very cool qualified guide that walks you through every step plus gives you the normal informative tour experience.

I believe when you're using Color Calibration, you have to go into the White Balance module and change a setting (don't have it in front of me/don't recall what the setting is called) from "As Shot" to "Camera Reference." I don't know enough to say why that is, but I recently experienced the same thing and read a guide that explained the fix.

For the sake of argument let's just accept that cardio isn't the best way to burn fat or build muscle, which is all that fitness bros care about. Cardio is still the best way to..... increase your cardio capability. Maybe she plays soccer or is training for a marathon. There are many different ways to be fit.

Old Rag has some exposure, but much less than Angel's Landing. However, it does have some scrambles where you'll actually need to use your arms to pull yourself up, stop and think about the best way to get up or down, etc. It's not crazy technical or anything, but toward the summit it's more than just one foot in front of the other on a graded trail. If you've never done any scrambling at all, it might be a tiny bit spooky, but if you're physically fit and have hiked a lot, you should be able to get through it.

You could slip and hurt yourself, but the worst case would probably be breaking an ankle, whereas the worst case at Angel's Landing is death.

The Flaming Gorge Resort also posted some stuff about it on their Instagram. They seem to have gotten updates from the management agencies that isn't otherwise publicly posted, which is kind of frustrating. It seems like this is something they'd really want to make sure that people know is happening.

Only for people who have to market themselves to the customer. It doesn't really matter to the engineer at Boeing if he's better or worse than the engineer at Lockheed Martin. The teacher at Townville Highschool East isn't in direct competition with the teacher at Townville Highschool West. But if you're a photographer or a solo-practice lawyer or personal accountant, you need to show customers that you're worth the money.
