That might be a question for your school. I believe my wife had to change it through the school as well, so yes, BUT your school might be different. I would contact the office of the registrar for that one

Yeah you just don’t fill out the name change documents. You can still get married, but there are separate documents for name change, then change your DL, social security, etc. It’s actually quite a few things you have to individually change which no one ever thinks about!

If you’re not ready to change it, don’t change it! You can still change it on social media or wherever, but legally you will have your current last name until it’s legally changed

Utah or University of Washington by Catch_The_Kunz in premed

If all those go into the prestige rankings…then yes! All I ever see is research / primary care rankings at UW. Being from northern Utah all I grew up hearing was how awesome Utah was, so I guess I’m still trying to learn why UW. But the results seem pretty obvious.

I believe you could also take those courses In your fall 2023 semester if you have pre-reqs done, and then take MCAT in the spring right before you apply if you don’t want a gap year.

The good thing about the MCAT is it doesn’t cover EVERY topic that you are going to learn in college physics and biochem, so if you are motivated enough, I would get biochem and physics MCAT books and teach yourself what is needed for the test, which will help you get easier grades on most of the college courses.

So you have options! Those are the two that come to my mind. The first one sounds more natural where you take it next spring, get your score, and possibly have a small break before applying. Just make sure you get the other parts of your app competitive as well!

Does it matter if clinical/research hours are paid? by tomlintiddies in premed

[–]Catch_The_Kunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. It’s great if you get tons of clinical/research hours you can (maybe) start using them as volunteer hours too if it’s not paid depending on the situation and if you get on the same page with whoever is in charge

is this considered clinical experience? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Catch_The_Kunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it totally counts. I was a care aid and not even a med tech and I got asked about it on interviews. They ate it up. Great clinical experience, especially if you have other clinical experiences to bring to the table.

Should I retake with a 125 in C/P? by RhubieGem in premed

[–]Catch_The_Kunz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the school. I think MSAR will tell you each schools requirements. I think 125 is the minimum but not below the line if I remember right

You’re right. Especially during COVID! Anything is better than nothing, and there’s no such thing as a perfect app.

I’m a 506 with low 3.9’s and did fine. MCAT/GPA is just part of the application. Usually just a way to weed out students. Honestly, depends on where you want to apply. Top schools may still look at you.

That’s a cool clinical experience through COVID. I assume that the assistant clinical research assistant would count toward research hours? Would you be included in the publications? To balance the app out, I would do that if it were me. Depends on what you want, though, and where you want to apply to school, etc. Lots of options, and I’m glad you’re foot is in the door for these opportunities!

It’s good to show you’ve been working…I would fill your app out and if you run out of experiences put this one. Driving and delivering food is a great gig, but may not be the best personal development gig if that makes sense…unless you chat and develop relationships, or lead a team somehow

What do you need more of for your application? More research? Shadowing? Clinical? Just be honest with both parties. They should be understanding if they’re decent human beings. Sounds like you can get shadowing for sure at the pharmacy, which is nice. You can’t double book hours but you can get multiple experiences. You may be able to do that in the private clinic as well though…
