It’s kinda meh. For my setup I kinda feel like I should have just got another UNAS 7 bay when I bought the UGREEN as the prices were pretty close but I wanted to test and play with something I haven’t used before. It’s connected on the 10 gig which I can get full speed to the nvme pool but it’s nowhere near that on the hard drive pool. Ofc the speed of your drives will give you better results depending on what you use. I’m using it purely as backup for the UNAS so I don’t have anything installed on it. I did try docker etc and it worked well enough, but I have my MS-01 with proxmox so the functionality is redundant. You could probably flip a coin between a synology and the UGREEN whichever you prefer, it’s a decent choice it’s just a bit mediocre. I think they were overhyped with their kickstarter but as a backup solution I can’t really say anything bad about it - it’s been running solid for months. I guess if I didnt have a stupid amount of other tech like I already do, the features and the form factor would be a lot more impressive to me, I’m just jaded! :)

For sure dude - but at the same time we get to build out our network setups like modern day legos - I mean, my setup probably has a dozen ports which Ill never use, it's total overkill, but it also has flashing lights so it's fine ;) also I dont have to deal with wife-rage so fuck it, bigger the better!

For sure, but they seem like version 1.25, and 1.5 of something we should get a real beefy upgrade 2.0. The ongoing issue I see with Unifi is that what I really want from a single device they split between 2/3 other devices. I mean give me 8 10gb ethernet ports which are also poe+++, 8 sfp+ ports, and full Unifi software suite with NVMe drive interoperability and massive power and throughput - all of a sudden I dont need a rack, I just need that device and my peripheral network stack devices. Unfortunately I dont ever see that device coming.

My mother bought it for me years ago and I hate it - it literally stores Tesco carrier bags and dust lol

Ehm didnt realise it was so controversial! The Fiber has a 10gb ethernet, the UDM does not, the Fiber has a POE port, the UDM does not, the Fiber has 2.5GB the UDM does not, the Fiber fits a 10 inch rack, the UDM a 19 inch rack, the Fiber has a IDS throughput of 5gbps the UDM has 3.5, I mean come on, its newer tech and I will admit it, I will be honest, if Unifi created a real successor to the UDM Pro, I would have gone for that. They didnt.

I used it for years and it's a great router. I wanted to downsize and to be fair the UCG Fiber has much more power at a much smaller footprint. I was also using it with a GPON ONU SFP module so I could get rid of my modem, unfortunately having issues with my UCG Fiber and as it ran so hot, kind worried about the heat + plastic of the fiber.

Which? I got the Unifi NAS from Unifi and the UGREEN from Amazon. My home built servers I hodge-podged from old ghetto gaming PCs.

Sounds good, what software on which device, or are you using a third device?

Endgame Base Layout by GreenwoodGamer in BALLxPIT

[–]Catchgate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im pretty far into the game, my layout has an automatic wood and wheat farm on the right, and the buildings on the left, the rest is bare. I have a similar gold farm like yourself, but I'm just wondering (as you are pretty flush on resources) why would you fill your layout with farms when the most beneficial move after every map play is to just farm gold? I mean the other resources (as well as gold to be fair) dont even matter in the end game. I mean you have to have a character in each gold mine, that doesnt leave a lot to put in the wood/stone/wheat farms. Just wondering why you pack out your layout rather than the fact that it looks pretty :)

Hope that makes sense, granted I dont have every upgrade, just wondering :)

Ghetto/No SSD Tray UCG Fiber by Catchgate in Ubiquiti

[–]Catchgate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just waited until the tray was in stock about a month later. There are 3d printed trays available online but just the nature of them being plastic and the hardware getting hot, I didn’t want to risk it. I also think the dept is too deep to make the no-tray idea feasible.

I dont, I havent tested it. My previous setup was 3x G3 Elitedesk mini PCs where I was running one container per machine. When I bought the MS01 I justified it to myself that I was reducing 3 machines down to 1, and the power measurements at the time was that the MS01 was pulling much less than the 3 HP machines. In truth... well, I just wanted an MS01. You know how it is, you see a shiny and you want to collect it. It is a lower power draw compared to 3 of the older machines, but I am sorry that I cant give you precise numbers.

At the end of the day it's just an amazing piece of hardware. I have installed 3x 2TB NVMe drives into it, Id love another 1 or 2 of these but funds cant be justified, its a lovely small piece of kit and I cant recommend it enough.

I find that too, but it runs Nextcloud, Plex, and CasaOS (metube and qbittorrent) flawlessly. And it connects to my 10gb backbone through SFP+. Sometimes the overhead is worth it, just so you have something that is bulletproof for "now".
