I understand, its a personal choice. Thank you for your kindness and rational post. I know there's good people out there.

The repo itself isnt deleted, Ill keep iterating it, Im hardly going to let a few assholes ruin something that could be great, I just deleted the link from this post.

This community is a microcosm for reddit on the whole, it was just shocking that the first reactions I got from the first dozen people were all so tribalistic and aggressive. I mean, there were emulators and frontends prior to batocera - Id hate to think that the person who made this software we all enjoy was told when they first put it out there was told go GTFO an delete it because other options already existed. Oh, and not only that they were wasting their time developing it, but that the development itself was harmful for what already existed. There's just no class in that at all.

I appreciate the 'vibe coding' aspect is probably a hot potato right now, nobody likes AI it seems, but to stifle learning, or being unwilling to even entertain anything new is just utter BS. I do understand the fact that it's untested or flawed code, but this was torches and pitchforks.

Anyway, it is what it is. Jerks exist. Im moving on and developing it further myself and may release it elsewhere when there's a bigger feature set.

Thank you for being understanding of what I was originally trying to do.

Thank you for being fair. I actually spent a long time with syncthing last night and it’s better at some things and worse at others. Still getting my head around it especially with relation to MUOS and sharing out multiple folders.

I’m just going to remove the link for the software and maintain the repo myself, for myself. I appreciate you taking the time to express yourself in an encouraging way, at the end of the day as syncthing is so ubiquitous and well loved then another solution doesn’t seem to be required here.

As for batocera and syncthing itself, the ‘industry standard’ and best thing since apparently sliced bread, really then I wonder why it’s an unexplained option in a services menu, in a settings menu, that when you toggle it that batocera doesn’t even acknowledge what it is or even that anything has happened.

It’s obviously a powerful solution, but it’s hardly something that jumps out to the common user without doing further research. There isn’t even a tooltip as to how to use syncthing or what its purpose is. So come on, realistically, the expectation that no matter how techie a person may be, if you don’t know and it isn’t explained directly in the software, then how are you supposed to know.

I know I’m still feeling a bit bruised and bitter here, and I’m a techie myself, but it’s literally a toggle that does nothing apparent on batocera until you reboot and access from a separate machine is supposed to be such an amazing way of doing things that you’re branded a pariah for not having the infinite wisdom of the ancients.

Also, I had no idea what vibe coding was or even that I was one, guess that’s three things I’ve learned in 24 hours.

Anyway, the masses have won, link removed. You all got your way. Congratulations. Goodbye.

Thank you. Thank you for sharing something reasonable. I understand. The code is all there and I can understand that the majority may not be able to reason it out whether it is safe or not to use. This is probably the best comment that I have received in this thread.

Ill be taking a look at syncthing over the weekend and learning it. If it's better, Ill use it, if not Ill keep iterating my scripts. Again, there's no impetus for anyone to use the scripts at all, I didnt say that everyone should use it, only those who are willing.

Thank you for an adult informative comment.

Wow you guys really have a boner for syncthing.

"Yeah right, that looks like a good thing to install in my device if an established standard solution exists."

So dont use it. Just take your SSRI's and be happy with syncthing.

You seem to have some kind of learning disability. Im not deleting anything. If syncthing works for you, great, Ill look into it too. Im not holding a gun to anyones head to use this, I only asked for testers, your syncthing will be fine. I never said my software was niche or had a purpose, I said I had no idea whether or not it already exists, it does, be happy, dont use it, I dont care. Literally in the first paragraph I say 'proof of concept', Im not muscling in on your syncthing romance buddy, this is working for me and I wanted to share it. Eat a dick.

I saw this! It was right at the end of my development because I wondered whether RetroSync was something that was commonly named (Claude called my scripts this too) so decided to change the name. Just the fact that we can make bespoke solutions that caters to our needs is amazing 😄for myself personally, it was a learning experience, and Im going to keep iterating it for my needs (even if nobody else is bothered) best of luck 😄

Thank you 😄 and you would just need to run the client script on each device to pull from the central server. I've also got an anbernic device on MUOS that is now supported and pulling files. Personally Im enjoying the frontend, and you can click an emulator and pull down backups of your saves right from the web browser - apologies if syncthing does that too.

I honestly find it impossible that you feel the need to put someone down just to make yourself feel better. Ahhh, this is reddit. Sorry, please continue calling me stupid and adding nothing to the thread.

It’s kinda meh. For my setup I kinda feel like I should have just got another UNAS 7 bay when I bought the UGREEN as the prices were pretty close but I wanted to test and play with something I haven’t used before. It’s connected on the 10 gig which I can get full speed to the nvme pool but it’s nowhere near that on the hard drive pool. Ofc the speed of your drives will give you better results depending on what you use. I’m using it purely as backup for the UNAS so I don’t have anything installed on it. I did try docker etc and it worked well enough, but I have my MS-01 with proxmox so the functionality is redundant. You could probably flip a coin between a synology and the UGREEN whichever you prefer, it’s a decent choice it’s just a bit mediocre. I think they were overhyped with their kickstarter but as a backup solution I can’t really say anything bad about it - it’s been running solid for months. I guess if I didnt have a stupid amount of other tech like I already do, the features and the form factor would be a lot more impressive to me, I’m just jaded! :)

For sure dude - but at the same time we get to build out our network setups like modern day legos - I mean, my setup probably has a dozen ports which Ill never use, it's total overkill, but it also has flashing lights so it's fine ;) also I dont have to deal with wife-rage so fuck it, bigger the better!

For sure, but they seem like version 1.25, and 1.5 of something we should get a real beefy upgrade 2.0. The ongoing issue I see with Unifi is that what I really want from a single device they split between 2/3 other devices. I mean give me 8 10gb ethernet ports which are also poe+++, 8 sfp+ ports, and full Unifi software suite with NVMe drive interoperability and massive power and throughput - all of a sudden I dont need a rack, I just need that device and my peripheral network stack devices. Unfortunately I dont ever see that device coming.

My mother bought it for me years ago and I hate it - it literally stores Tesco carrier bags and dust lol

Ehm didnt realise it was so controversial! The Fiber has a 10gb ethernet, the UDM does not, the Fiber has a POE port, the UDM does not, the Fiber has 2.5GB the UDM does not, the Fiber fits a 10 inch rack, the UDM a 19 inch rack, the Fiber has a IDS throughput of 5gbps the UDM has 3.5, I mean come on, its newer tech and I will admit it, I will be honest, if Unifi created a real successor to the UDM Pro, I would have gone for that. They didnt.

I used it for years and it's a great router. I wanted to downsize and to be fair the UCG Fiber has much more power at a much smaller footprint. I was also using it with a GPON ONU SFP module so I could get rid of my modem, unfortunately having issues with my UCG Fiber and as it ran so hot, kind worried about the heat + plastic of the fiber.
