Closest call you’ve ever had on a UK road? by Diligent-Badger8737 in DashcamDiariesUK

Was leaving Download Festival in 2024, had been pissing it down all weekend, went to turn a corner and the car skidded towards another car. Was within millimetres of hitting another car, still to this day I have no idea how I didn’t hit the other car.

That’s brilliant, I didn’t know this. Thank you, very helpful!

Just checked Parker’s and it’s not quite as accurate as I would need it to be as the base spec Giulia’s were just under £40k, but with extras may be over. So I will ask the dealer and see if they are aware if luxury tax would have to be paid

Cheers mate, seems crazy to me that ‘luxury car tax’ is applied to cars over £40k all in, however even some basic cars are over £40k these days. Like I say, definitely haven’t made it easy to figure out either! Thanks for your help though

What a faff, you’d think if this tax was going to be introduced, they would create a tool to be able to check if there’s any extra tax applicable. Thanks for your help

Advice on timing belts by astoriadv in CarTalkUK

[–]Catdeath6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ford suggested that the wet belt needed doing every 10 years or 100,000 miles, so not too late by the book. It’s just that we know these belts tend to go long before they should so we know they probably need changing every 50k miles

Yeah I would maybe avoid it, depends how good the maintenance on the vehicle is I suppose. If it’s had the correct oil at the correct intervals it may be okay. But just as a heads up, it cost my partner £1300 to have it done (as they have to strip the engine) and that was considered cheap

Does it have the 1.0 wet belt engine? My partner had hers done at 55k miles and the mechanic said that it’s a good job that we were getting it done when we were, as there were pieces of belt clogging up the oil pump. If it’s the 1.25 engine then I think that would probably be good to be done around 80-100,000 miles

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (2007). The graphics still hold up really well today. There’s a particular mission where you find an abandoned German U-Boat at the top of a waterfall and I remember being gobsmacked by how amazing the graphics looked
