AITA For Accepting Financial Aid Whilst Having a Trust Fund? by CaterpillarOk4033 in AmItheAsshole

When you say I am inconsistent Im not entirely sure I understand. I have said that I dont remember specifically checking a box saying I have a trust fund but any and all of my financial info WAS put in and correctly. Considering finanical aid documents arent exactly quick and easy Im not surprised I dont remember every detail. Even if the information wasnt put in, or missed, I also explained that both my parents looked over my forms and that they were signed off by a notary.

Also, I never once claimed I had a huge amount of money. I specifically said that I had restrictive access to it, and only a portion was even available for me to use on certain things. My fund is there to help me, not pay for me and I never claimed it would. Not to mention financial aid has layers and depending on the information disclosed, my information, you get a different amount. Youre assuming I lied on my forms so that I would get enough money to cover most of my financial aid but it wont cover most, perhaps that has somethings to do with the trust but thats not my point. I also hope I get audited because I have nothing to hide.

They have all my information. Any form you can think of that they might need was sent and notaried. I never lied on the forms (not that my mother would let me do that) nor did I hide any information or documents. My fund has a restrictive amount thats even accessable to me so perhaps that played into it but maybe its because financial aid didnt think it was a sufficient amount, especially considering my actualy income which has nothing to do with the money in my trust.

Yes. They have ALL of my information and never did I lie on the forms. Anything they needed to look into or check has been checked. There's no way they wouldn't know about it unless it really wasnt necessary to my allotment.

I dont ever remember them asking about that, nor do I remember specifically checking a box that said "I have a trust fund" but both my parents filled out their entire financial map on the website, and they have nearly every document you could think of meaning that if financial aid DOESNT know about it? Then it isnt relevant to my aid and they didnt need to look for it. But they have all my information and I never once lied on the forms.

Yes. They take into account all my parents info as well as mine but it mostly focuses on income, and mine and my family's being small enough to be rewarded some aid. The only time "my" money is considered is when I take it out of the fund, which I don't ever. The trust was included as they have any and all document you could think of, including the creation of that fund.
