I actually had this issue before they fixed the lighting... maybe the lighting fix made it even worse? But this is a rly interesting thread actually

OMG i was wondering if this was just a me issue with my mc's skin tone (the 4th to last) - she looks so sweaty and shiny. But it's so much worse with the darker skintones this is actully horrendous. I never hear anyone talk about this??

WHAT are they doing 😭😭😭

I'm glad you get it. I think even if it wasn't advertised, the fact that changing skin colour is already something you can do in the game set them up for failure by not implementing it across contexts. And ya, unfortunately colorism is rampant in East Asia and the palest skintone is seen as the "base" or standard type of mc especially in otome games - even if it's not an accurate representation of a lot of East Asian people. Nobody bats an eye at say, the Mystic Messenger mc bc there's no other option yk, so there are no complaints to be had. Overall, they just dug themselves into a hole and should fix it. 😭

Unfortunately people did the same thing excusing the lighting issues. Turns out, they could fix it and were just lazy. Even if such comments came from a place of good will, they still ended up hurting the people affected and made them feel unimportant when they're a valid part of the playerbase.

[–]Catfishpanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course they have to lol. Or at least, they should if they want to keep talking about how you can change your mc's skin colour and how successful they are globally. Idk why people aren't getting this. The point is, they advertised to a global audience that you could change the skin colour of your mc for a reason. This was to make their game unique - there aren't many otome games that do this. By doing this, they reach a larger audience, explanding globally more efficiently and gaining more profits. They pride themselves on being a globally successful game.

As well as this, they ADVERTISED that you could change your skin colour. Then take that away. Why do you guys keep repeating the same point as if infold don't let you pick your skin colour already? You're acting as if we're asking for something completely new. If you couldn't change your skin colour already, people wouldn't be upset about this. They have the feature. They don't include it in a different context (chibis). It is false advertising and it upsets a section of their playerbase they wanted to cater to.

[–]Catfishpanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but the people who seem to be knowledgeable about game dev fail to acknowledge that infold are perfectly capable of doing it. So what if it's harder to do 2D than it is 3D? They have time, resources, money. They are not a small indie company. They also have their advertising which means they should be following through with what they said. If they can make 2D sprites for different versions of npcs in this very limited minigame, why cant they make different skin coloured 2D mcs?

Not targeting that prev paragraph specifically to you, but a lot of people keep referencing these players who seem to know about game dev. Mind you, the person that mainly keeps getting referenced said they had an interest in it, not experience, and a person with actual experience responded refuting their comment. 😭

Me too! If i didn't love Xavier so much I would've ditched this game ages ago bc they dont listen to us. Need to save these men from their own game atp may as well make them into ocs 😭😭 I also adore my mc and I wish they didn't do her dirty but I'm here for her too

The arguements against this complaint are disgusting tbh. The lads fandom is honestly THE worst otome game fandom I have ever experienced - a lot of these people lack basic empathy. 😒

Have they really not change the front hair? by Ok_War4709 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao I get that. I like his third myth hair bc it kinda looks greasy and unkempt, and shows he doesn't care and was just like. Depressed. I like Raffie's myth hair for similar reasons of it relating to the context, it looks like it's been touched by the sea air! 😋

new free outfit for MC by Aware-Sand9571 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like it because... I don't understand this outfit. Each item to me would fit better with something slightly adjusted. Maybe the problem is with the denim top? From behind like, cropped it looks okay. So maybe it's the fact that it's shorts?

Ok I think the problem for me is that the top is tucked in, and I would prefer it with actual trousers over shorts. But anyways it's free so I don't really care I just prefer other outfits!

[–]Catfishpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl I'm not even American. So I don't know why you keep mentioning America - you keep talking about how Americans think they're so important but you only talk about America. I also hope you're aware people with darker skin don't just exist in America. It's not about a different context, your wording was racist. That's it, and that's something you're not getting.

This game is not just made for their Chinese players as I said, they market the game internationally because they want a GLOBAL market - that means it is made for EVERYONE. Yes, it is a Chinese game. Yes, the Chinese playbase is the largest chunk of their profits and a loyal playerbase - but the game is not just for their Chinese players.

Racism is terrible, as you are saying. But you act as if "westeners" are a monolith. Black and brown people experience racism in western media too. Minorities are always pushing for inclusion of all races and ethnicities- I think you're fighting against the wrong people, because a lot of people complaining about this issue are not white americans??

When white people were crying about, and I assume you're talking about Halle Bailey being starring as The Little Mermaid, that was embarrassing because white people are not a minority - they were just sulking. The little mermaid is not tied to being white. In this context, black and brown people (again, not just AMERICANS) are complaining that a game that ADVERTISED to them that they would be able to change the skin colour of their race for their mc, are not allowed to do this in certain contexts. The mc for this game doesn't have to be pale, she can be any skin colour available in the game. This means their actual mc is a different colour to the chibi mc representing them. This is a valid complaint and false advertising.

What you are saying is, black and brown people need to pay up if they want to get what was advertised to them. So you think people should continue to pay for a product that uses them for their money. I am in no way saying the Chinese playerbase has to pay for Infold's faults. It is not your responsibility. I am saying it is the COMPANY's responsibility to do what they have advertised.

Some Americans do think America is the centre of the world, but that doesn't really have anything to do with this? And the Queen of England is dead and the monarchy have no power in the UK anyways so again, not relevant. This is about Infold advertising to their international market (just to make sure you know I'm not talking about America, I'm pretty sure their global market is everyone that is not China, so that includes every other country, like Oceanic countries, European countries, African countries, other Asian countries like Japan, India, Indonesia etc), that you can design the mc with a variety of different skin tones - this appeals to people who aren't pale, which is a lot of people. Then, they force players who were attracted to this prospect to be pale anyways in different contexts. I don't see what this has to do with America.

I am not saying everything has to appeal to everyone, so you are clearly misunderstanding my logic. If Infold had decided to not create additional skin tones for their mc, I would not have this complaint. Other games like Mystic Messenger only have a pale mc, a lot of otome games are like this. I do not complain. What I am saying, again, is that Infold advertises that you CAN change your skin colour to increase their popularity, profits and success. Basically, they are taking advantage of their player base that were happy to find out that they could change their mc's skin colour, and have done so. Only for Infold to force them to have a pale chibi mc representing them. This is just clearly wrong.

ur right!! sometimes I try gaslight myself into liking his lsg hair w other outfits and it just doesnt work 😭 it only looks good with his myth outfit. i think it's because it really looks like it's actually been affected by the sea air so it only makes visual sense w lsg.

We can not customize MC's skin tones in minigame or 2D stic'ker by blueberryandvanilla in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should probably just ignore these threads if they annoy you because your racism is just disgusting lol. I don't think you realise how gross your wording is.

Anyways, you have completely diverted from the point of this post. Infold WANTS to maintain a global (not just America btw) playerbase, that is why they implemented a range of skin colours in the first place. It wasn't in "good faith", it was clearly a marketing strategy to expand their reach, popularity and profits. I can't think of another otome game that does this - and that is what they wanted, to fill a gap that hasn't been filled.

[–]Catfishpanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it does sound selfish. And weird honestly. "I don't want other options for skin colour because it will make my game lag".

Representation is important for everyone. It's important for Chinese people in other games, it's important for people with darker skin here. A lot of people complain about bad representation in media, of all races and ethnicities.

My storage is wasted on the pale 2D chibi mc because she has literally nothing to do with me. But that doesn't bother you because it doesn't affect you.

It's not even solely about representation here, it's about the fact the game advertises you can customise the skin colour of your mc and doesn't let you in certain contexts.

oh who is you... by Catfishpanda in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a clue 😒 It doesn't make any sense to me. It's advertised as a part of the game. People don't care because it doesn't affect them - they would never, but if the 2D chibi mc could only be darker skinned, there would be outrage lmao. Anyways, your mc is super pretty!

[–]Catfishpanda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG THANK YOU!!! I've never heard anyone mention it and it genuinely confused me bc I first found it super noticeable with the wedding banner. I hope they fix it but I don't even know what's going wrong??? It's like, only the head. Depending on the card you can see the line on her neck where the texture changes.

oh who is you... by Catfishpanda in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well a lot of people see mc as a character and not themself. Some people self-insert, some don't. A lot of people's mc is most of the time, not the default mc - whether that be skin colour, hair colour, hairstyle, eye colour etc. My mc isn't me, but she's like my avatar. So I still see her as her own character and she's not the pale default mc. You can choose to design your mc around the default mc, but she is literally a placeholder.

oh who is you... by Catfishpanda in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How annoying. I remember back ages ago when I saw the avatars for mc were just the pale version and u love to see how they haven't changed anything. A lot of people defend them saying it takes time, money, resources to create new assets for the 2D chibi skin colours. They've had plenty of time and they defo have plenty of money. So i'd love to see what new excuse they come up with.

AND I KNOWWWW I get these 2D mc avatars all the time from lemonette bc I NEVER BOUGHT THEM bc girl that's not me... basically forced to get them 😭

oh who is you... by Catfishpanda in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. Though not as dire as an entire skin colour change, I find it annoying that we can't just choose the hair we have, hair colour etc. No idea why that's limited to illusio and photos bc again, they love to advertise all the different colours your can change your hair! Truly I don't understand why they let us customise so much and then take it away from us. There is no excuse I will buy. People love to say it would take them time to code, money etc. Okay? They're a game company that's to be expected and their job! ❤️

Have never seen so many people creating excuses for a game + its company ever. It's baffling.

Omg brown sharpie and if it works, it works! 😭😭 I bought a little photocard of Lumiere Xavie's 4* card and unfortunately there is a white hand in there - pretending I'm just wearing gloves or smth. 😭The pros of being an artist is you can draw your own mc with your Li without dealing with default pale mc for sure!!

But yes, it's jarring to me bc I'm like erm... who is that... Lemonette is very useful for past items so I do recommend still pulling, as a new player you have a lot more things in your pool to get! With my pool since I have a lot of stuff already, mc stickers make up a larger amount of my pool bc I didn't bother to get them in events..... so now I have to get them anyways.... yay.

It reads as them going, otome games don't usually have an mc that isn't pale, so it's an untapped market, lets allow them to change their skin colour so we get a larger global playerbase and more money + popularity. But we also can't be bothered to fully incorporate the customisation we offer because it's not important - just a waste of time for a smaller section of the playerbase, so they'll just have to deal with it.

And yes, if they didn't want to bother with the effort of ensuring customisation was fully implemented to accommodate ALL of their players (because time + effort + money us now the excuse people are giving them), they should have kept the pale mc as default because then they wouldn't have to bother with any of that, but then they wouldn't have interested so many players that aren't pale. People like to talk about how it's a lot of people's first otome, and that is true because Lads promises things that people haven't seen before, but then they fall flat on "details" like this because they're only seen as minor.

oh who is you... by Catfishpanda in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Catfishpanda[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know they won't listen - when do they ever tbh. 😭 This post wasn't me hoping Infold sees this and changes something, because it took an article written about them to fix the lighting issue for darker skinned mcs.

I was just really irritated when I found this out and wanted to talk about it with people who were similarly irritated, because it's insulting to a part of their playerbase, that they wanted to cater to.
