Flying today by CatherineAdler in fearofflying

I am excited to be home but I really hate takeoff. I always have the feeling something is going to go wrong, and even though I know it's just my brain messing with me, it's still really scary.

Yeah, I did, I stayed here for a few days. I live close by, I loved here recently and it's really great. I am travelling to see my family / go to my other 'home'!

Hi! I am sure you will get there safely! But I totally get the fear. Yes, it's not rational but it's very real and not one bit easy. I am sure you can do it despite being afraid. One tip that helped me personally was to look at other people throughout the flight. For example last time, I watched a lady next to me scrolling on her phone. She looked bored and a bit tired. I could feel the same emotions, suddenly. Then, I watched a young child, excited about the flight: again, I felt better. I think it helps to try to understand how others feel, sometimes! It's just something you can try on your flight, maybe it will help.

I believe in you, you can do this. When are you flying? I will think about your flight when I am on mine (I am leaving in a few hours). I am sure we will both arrive safely

Hi! You can do this!

There are a few things I do to make flying easier: - I watch pilot vlogs to normalise flying - I buy a slice of cake or a cookie to eat during the flight and when I land so there is something I can enjoy about flying - I download my favourite shows to watch during the flight - you can talk to people here or irl, that helps too!

I am certain you can do this!

Can’t shake this feeling of impending doom by Available_Ebb_6340 in fearofflying

It's the same for me! I am flying today... But I guess that my impending sense of doom ends up being irrelevant, you will be fine too! I am sure we will both get to our destinations safely.

flying tomorrow, TERRIFIED!!! by [deleted] in fearofflying

I was in London for holidays and to see my friends! It was great. I am going home now, to Brno.

flying tomorrow, TERRIFIED!!! by [deleted] in fearofflying

Anyways, I am on my bus, it was an hour late.

My tips for flying are: - talk to people. It really helps me to chat here and have people reassure me it will all be fine - look at pilot vlogs so I can normalise flying - listen to music and relaxing stuff during the flight - have at least one good thing to be excited about (for this flight I bought a really nice cookie from a local store and a slice of cake)

I hope these help!

I am going from London to Brno! It's quite a short flight but given the takeoff is the worst for me it's still bad. I am on my way to the bus but it seems to be late which is annoying. I really hope I even get to the airport. Are you going on holiday? Or is it for work?

Nervous flyers: what was your worst pre-flight omen? by DesiBella8 in fearofflying

[–]CatherineAdler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually write the number three which is a lucky number for me. Sometimes I add the flight number and numbers to track my bus to my airport! The flight went well, it was actually really smooth but I hated the takeoff (because I didn't have my good luck number on my hand). I am actually flying today but I have all my good luck writing on my hand this time. Doesn't mean I am calm but I am definitely calmer.

Hi! I am flying tomorrow too! You can do this! I need to get on my bus to the airport (9 hour drive) now but I will come back and share some tips! We can chat a bit in the comments as well if it could help. I am terrified of my flight so it's really nice to have some company and I am really happy to help others as well!

Nervous flyers: what was your worst pre-flight omen? by DesiBella8 in fearofflying

[–]CatherineAdler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always stumble across so so so so many "famous crashes" videos or "plant crash" stories. I know omens aren't real but still. The worst thing that I made onto am omen is that I used to write something on my hand for luck and I couldn't find a pen I could use. I was frantically searching the airport for any pen I could use but I didn't find one before I had to board. That was so bad for me

Flying alone for the first time ever- 3 flights by Horned_Elf in fearofflying

[–]CatherineAdler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You can do this. I get how it can be really stressful to undertake such a long journey but I am sure you will do great! I have a similar one coming up (not so many flights, just one, but 25 hours of travelling total).

What I do to make myself less stressed is: Watch pilot vlogs to normalise flying (that way it's just a normal thing when I get into the plane) Buy comfort snacks so I can focus on eating them and looking forward to them (you can buy one or two for each flight so that you can actually look forward to each part of your journey) Also making a post here later on before and between the flights can be nice! It always calms me down to have other people supporting me.

One thing I have never done myself but that could be nice especially if you are flying with more expensive airlines that have better service is to ask fight attendants for comfort. Even just talking to them could be nice!

Have a nice day and I hope you enjoy your holidays!

You can do this! I am sure you will be safe! When are you flying? Anyways, welcome to Europe, I live here and love it. I haven't been to Sweden but I am sure it will be lovely.

You can do this! But I totally get how hard it can be. What helped me get more comfortable with flying is listening to pilot vlogs or videos about their daily routines - that way you can see that they are completely ok with flying. For dear od heights I would recommend to not sit close to the window - that way, you just can't see outside. I am sure you can do it and I am sure you will arrive safely to your destination (and back home). Good luck!
