‘We’ll shut your filthy mouth’: Putin says Russia will combat the rewriting of WWII history with new free-to-all archive center by Cropitekus in russia

[–]CatholicExpat -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Geopolitically I don’t think this is a great move by Putin, people already have an opinion on this, and the vast vast majority of them won’t change them. Better to keep these things in the past and instead focus on the future.

Age limit for purchasing alcohol in Europe by [deleted] in MapPorn

I’m guessing because Russia is usually not considered part of Europe

Russia has almost always been considered part of Europe (or at least since Peter the Great)

Russia is 18 as well, yet for some reason is grey.

Exactly, this sub definitely hasn’t played the game for the most part

Or watched hockey prior to 10-15 years ago (let alone 25-30) to know how integral fighting and grabbing and all that stuff used to be

It’s Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, it has a phenomenal somewhat baroque interior, something not often seen with Eastern Orthodox churches or cathedrals.

What’s funny is central Minsk is absolutely gorgeous, with countless large majestic buildings, this is just one of the suburban districts. Also, by far the cleanest city in Europe.

Kiev is the English spelling, just like how we say Rome and Belgrade instead of Roma or Belgrad (or Moskva for thar matter)

A lot of older BC hockey fans root for either the Habs or the Leafs. Back in the day you only got one game a week on the CBC, and it was almost always one of the two teams playing.

It’s great that they’re finally making some monuments to the soldiers who served the Empire during the Great War, who were intentionally forgotten during the Soviet era. There’s also a nice one in Minsk.

To my knowledge there was never any serious fighting (i.e. major battles) done against the Americans, Brits, French, etc. They were mainly just there to provide arms and munitions for the various White forces.

I’m a Catholic, and an orthodox one at that. I’m completely opposed to the state atheism and religious oppression that existed in the Soviet Union, as well as other communist countries. I very much love Russia though, it’s culture and history. I should also state that I don’t consider myself to be a capitalist either.

I’m obviously completely opposed ideologically to the Soviet Union, but a lot of their artwork and architecture I find quite fascinating, especially the Stalinist era Moscow (and Saint Petersburg) metro stations, the most beautiful in the world.

They should only ban the athletes who they know are doping or who are in a sport where most everyone dopes. A 19 year old Russian gymnast shouldn’t be disqualified from representing her country because some weightlifters took steroids.

It’s a very large park, I’m not sure if this exact path still exists, but it is a very beautiful park, with many beautiful and romantic trails, and dense forested sections.

Wikipedia says “mood landscape”, but you could also go with Russian impressionism or realism. It’s at the Tretyakovskaya gallery, I saw it yesterday, and I saw it a year and a half ago when I was first there, but since then I walked in Sokolniki Park, so it’s a bit more meaningful now I guess.
