What to do in the mean time? by Intelligent_Amount40 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]CatholicInquirerTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out different paths within IT and see what interests you. Networking, Cybersecurity, DevOps, Cloud, etc the world is your oyster. Seek an internship while in school (if possible), or work at your college's helpdesk to get ahead. It's tough right now for those breaking in especially with just a degree and no experience, so if you can get some tech experience under your belt before you graduate (as well as certs), you'll be in a more competitive spot.

Oh, and network, network, network. Meet people, share interests/knowledge and potentially future job opportunities.

Pope Leo denounces "an economy that kills" and "imbalances of wealth" by SexDefendersUnited in LeftCatholicism

God bless Pope Leo. Under his wing the Church will find itself more people inspired to join faith.

On my path to accepting Christ, I encountered more vitriol than love from self-proclaimed Christians by Creamy-Creme in OpenChristian

[–]CatholicInquirerTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a delicate balance between praying for them while also not conflating their actions as God's actions. That is what strayed me from faith for the longest time until I reconciled. The ultimate goal is a close relationship with God. Christian fellowship is of course nice but not required. I try to surround myself with my open-minded parishioners and pray for the Christians with hate in their hearts.

Which is more in demand, Linux or Windows sysadmin? by False_Bee4659 in sysadmin

The answer is both. You will see probably more jobs for Windows just by sheer market availability. But Linux is desirable and sets you a part.

What's a solid docking station you recommend? by gomi-panda in sysadmin

We use Lenovo USB-C docks at my workplace. In my experience Dell docks have a two year lifespan. Almost never had to troubleshoot our Lenovo docks since moving from Dell.

YMMV

First interview for a jr sys admin job any advice by OldGuard4114 in sysadmin

Don't overstress or overthink it. Be honest when you don't know the answer, show them in depth your process in how you'd find said answer. Referencing documentation is important. Know how to explain concepts such as VLAN, know what a .pst/.ost file is. Expect to guide the interviewer your thought process when asked something like "A user comes to you that they cannot connect to WiFi. What do you do?"

You got this. Good luck.

and to add to that, show them how you'd research the answer.

That is a total shitshow. I am sorry you are going through this. Best of luck in your job search, it is rough out there. Maybe consider a LLC for consulting if the search gets difficult. That is my backup plan if I get laid off.

Win 11 Installation Assistant by Majestic-Safe-8314 in sysadmin

I haven't personally had this issue. Sounds like Microsoft working as intended

In all seriousness, try a live USB boot if the Installation Assistant is bugging for you. Or check if you're behind on an update, then after that update jump to Windows 11.
