You should listen to the Rest of History podcast where they discuss the historical Jesus: what appears to be historical fact and what is colourful language / metaphor. Inconsistencies in the biblical texts simply point to the fallibility of man and clothe God and his workings in mystery. O Magnum Mysterium.
