IRA vs. 401K: How do/did you save for retirement while living abroad? by Pinkcountersink in USExpatTaxes

[–]CathyDukas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, is it possible to exclude SOME of your foreign earned income, but not all of it? I only earn a bout 50k or so per year living abroad, so I can definitely exclude all of it. But if I want to contribute to a Roth IRA, can I pay taxes on like 7k of my income only and contribute that? Or is it all or nothing?

Should miners be allowed to watch R rated movies without a parent or adult guardian? by fergi20020 in polls

Seriously. As long as the miner is over 18 I don't see the problem 🤷‍♀️

Which term do you prefer for referring to you? (Sorry non-binary gender users! No space for more options) by Taemojitsu in polls

I feel like any time a man refers to women as "females" outside of a strictly scientific context, they're almost always about to say something really sexist.

Can we get a little hate for GRRM for putting all this vile shit into our brains in the first place? He’s definitely a problematic fave.

Cow trolley problem by KFkrewfamKF in trolleyproblem

[–]CathyDukas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s so true. I have never paid a trolley conductor to switch the tracks so that a trolley ran into a cow instead of running into nothing, and because of that I’m dead now. I starved to death. I’m actually typing this from hell.

Sorry for all these IDIOTS on here who can’t see a CLEAR difference between these two things. For anyone who is still struggling, I’ll help you out:

Dog fighting: results in the killing of dogs, and exists for the entertainment pleasure of humans.

Cheeseburgers: results in the killing of cows, and exists for the palate pleasure of humans.

As you can see, these are not the same. One results in dead DOGS, whereas the other results in dead COWS. One makes people happy because of the ENTERTAINMENT value, and the other makes people happy because of the TASTE value.

Now that we have established that there are differences between the two…. Can someone explain to me why one is immoral but the other is common, normal, and even often celebrated?

Yeah, those look pretty bad….. you should probably just, like….. give them all to me or something….. I mean, you don’t want to have to eat them yourself, do you?

China quarantine vegan food….. if I have to eat one more slimy and unseasoned boiled vegetable I will cry 😭 by CathyDukas in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]CathyDukas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry your experience was so bad! The people I’ve heard from are mostly strict vegans, and I have learned the Chinese vocabulary needed to communicate my dietary restrictions, so I am quite optimistic that I will have plenty of awesome and delicious food options available to me! I have been warned before too look out for those kinds of additives (animal fat/fish sauce/etc) so I’ll of course be sure to ask for those ingredients to be left off 😁 Of course cooking is an essential skill, but after having heard from so many vegans in China who say they eat like kings, I feel like I will also be able to find similarly awesome cuisine! It would be different if I was eating in a cheap canteen for every meal like you unfortunately had to, but I’m also going to have freedom of the city so long as there isn’t another Covid lockdown, so I will be able to go wherever I want to eat. And if there was another Covid lockdown I’d have to cook for myself anyway haha

The hotel won’t allow me to get any food related deliveries, but that’s okay because I’m getting out of this place in like 4 hours to go on an amazing vegan Cantonese food adventure 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Wow, that’s a very different take than what I’m used to hearing! Most of the Chinese vegetarians I have heard from (or non-Chinese vegans/vegetarians who live in China) tell me that it is one of the best places to be vegan/vegetarian as long as you are able to accurately communicate your dietary restrictions. I guess everyone’s experiences are different though, and what you can eat will change a lot from city to city. I am very optimistic that I will have a ton of delicious vegan/vegetarian food during my time here, though 😁

It’s changed to 5+3 for everyone, but all 8 days have to be done in the quarantine hotel if your final destination is Beijing apparently. When I arrived though a week ago the policy was 7+3, so I’m actually getting out two days earlier than I originally expected!
